you mean in one person? or a couple? either way I would think that would be a tough one.

Yes, I'm talking about in one person...and it is tough in more than one way. When I finally get past the ADHD long enough to get something done, the OCD takes over and I make very little ground compared to what I feel like I could otherwise. The ADHD is old hat, but the OCD, something I often considered as just my attention to detail, has recently proven to be very debilitating in school. Thanks for the feedback.

wow. that's interesting. it seems like these things would contradict each other, like attention deficit is the opposite of obsession. I don't know very much about ADHD. what's this combination like? what do you do? are you on meds, or therapy?

Its an odd combo but i have it as well. im hyper by nature. so performing under pressure sometimes is good for me. However, that being said, there are times i cannot get a entire task done because the ocd steps in and takes over.
Im on meds as well. wellbutrin and paxil. and it works, not 100 percent, but then again nothing is 100 percent Hope this helps Colleen |

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure how much of a problem the OCD is, but i'm starting to think it's bigger than I thought. Did you ever take Adderall? What about any other SSRI's besides Paxil?

I've read that the areas of the brain thought to be responsible for ADD are also some of the same for OCD...I'm still learning a lot about both though. I'll try and keep you posted.

I'm intrested in this as well . There is the hyperfocus that can appear as obsessive.
The obesessive compulsive part to me is the intrusive thoughts that lead one to do things and one lacks control over having to do them . But if its an addiction theres that component . If its fear driven its OCD . This can be anxziety driven also. I'm not real savey on meds. Having my eating disorder classified /calssifies me as obsessive compulsive . I was on Prozac for several years. Its a puzzling, trying to tease apart ADHD and OCD . I'm trying to learn more about ADHD . Particularily the visual component both the outward visual distraction as in objects or written words. And with the internal visual distractions that are word connected . maybe start a thread on it over in The ADHD section . if we can steer Colleens trike over there.. ![]() Or here . Shucks , now Im conused. ![]() ![]() |

Yes, Currently. I will try to explain in the best i can.. Im ADD/OCD. When certain situations arise. OCD is at its peak. ADD/ADHD has been in me for along time. But what i noticed about myself is that when i take the meds for ADD it stimulates the OCD..Weird and hard to explain. I almost believe that the OCD is more of a problem ...Cleaning, checking dates on food, Germs.handwashing.etc. so regardless if i dont take the ADD meds im still this way and when i take them...WATCH OUT!!

What kind of ADHD do you have?
I have overfocused ADD. I was diagnosed after having an EEG done by a Neurofeedback specialist. My original reason for seeing him, was to help me with memory and concentration problems. He said that people with overfocused ADD, have fast brain waves. People with ____ADD have slow brain waves. (I can't remember the name of that type) Anyway, the EEG showed I have fast brainwaves in every part of my brain. I believe it! I get so caught up with all the thoughts in my head, I have trouble concentrating on what's going on outside of me. Sometimes, there could be someone pounding on my door and I wouldn't even hear it. A big part of my OCD, is obsessing and ruminating. It makes sense to me that someone who obsesses has a lot of thoughts going on, so it makes sense that someone with overfouced ADD would have OCD and vica versa. |

I have ADD/OCD and it's a joy. I take stimulants and sedatives. When I get stressed and my OCD flares, I have to take fewer stimulants because it makes me more anxious and I start experiencing paranoia (not the delusional type). So, after I go through a stressful time, my body gets exhausted and I have NO energy and the stimulants help only a little. Then I am totally disorganized (ADD) and have to fight to get the energy to pick up the pieces. It's a joy, no doubt. I lose everything that I touch and get so frustrated about it. I'm learning to try to accept myself as I am because I am now in a work environment where others accept me. I sometimes have the awesome creativity often linked with ADD and often have the analytic/intellectualization skills that can be a part of OCD. These strengths, though, are not ones that are readily seen. People have to really know me and look beyond my disorganization/lack of time managment skills/lack of motivation to see my strengths. I feel for you. . .

I thought I was the only one with this. I have trouble keeping my attention on some things and on other things I can't get my attention from it. It makes me crazy. I can't concentrate on the things I need to be doing, but my mind races around fearful thoughts and compulsives that don't make sense. It is amazing I actually can do my job, and I do my job well because I have no trouble getting bonuses on a job well-done. Of course, I work hard on covering it up at work. I take paxil and have xanax in case of a real bad panic attack, but I have to be careful with that because I have high blood pressure which when it goes up induces panic attacks. I have to check my blood pressure to make sure which it is, whether I need a xanax or a blood pressure pill. Anyway, I can definitely relate.
