At various times over the last 10 or so years since my anxiety/panic has gotten really bad, I have noticed that sometimes when I am just trying to relax my lower lip will suddenly start to quiver a little bit. I have also noticed at various times (although not that often) I will have an increase in salivation. I'm not shaking all over or "foaming" at the mouth or anything like that but there is just more saliva that usual.
Of course, I'm thinking "rabies" and all kinds of other horrible diseases but I read that Xanax can cause an increase or decrease in salivation and I had a nurse tell me a long time ago that withdrawl from Xanax can cause the lip quiver thing but how can I be going through withdrawl when I just took a Xanax a few hours ago?. Can taking Xanax cause this too?. Has anyone else ever experienced this?. Also, the fact that I'm producing more saliva. Is that common with anxiety/panic disorders?. I've experienced these things before (more saliva and lip thing) but I don't think I;ve ever asked other's if they had any of these symptoms/side effects. - Thank's! |

Haven't taken Xanax and don't know anything about it...but the increase in sailiva thing could be related to a variaty of other things. Do you have low blood sugar, or any problems in that regard? Low blood sugar can cause excess saliva due to the thirst you feel when your sugar dumps. As a matter of fact, I suppose high blood sugar can cause that too. Dehydration can cause excess saliva because our body is telling us we need water, and though it may not be quite hot yet, our body knows summer is coming and is craving more water. Decreased sodium can also cause excess saliva. So there a number of things to look at regarding diet. Have you made any recent changes to your diet? You say it seems to be related to anxiety, but keep in mind that when our body is lacking a key nutrient, that can cause anxiety as well, called a vaso vagal response. If something is wrong, our body tries to tell us. Don't know if that helps, hopefully, maybe?
Take care, Rayna
