Earth Day is Friday. And at this of my life, I feel more pressured to do meaningful things to help save Mother Earth. I'm going to list a few things that I do, and will do, to help save what's left to save!!
1. as i'm waiting for hot water to run, i fill gallon jugs What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day?? and use it on my plants.
2. i only buy the simplest and purest forms of bathcare, etc.
3. i clean up the trash What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day?? in the park across the street.
4. i combine all my errands into one trip, to conserve gas and reduce pollution.
5. i wear cotton and linen clothes. What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day??
6. i never, ever litter.. What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day??
7. in the summer, i rely on fans as much as i can..before turning on the air conditioner and using oodles of electricity.
8. i re-cycle all newspapers and paper bags, cans and glass.
9. i'm teaching my six year old granddaughter What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day?? about the environment.
10.i don't use herbicides or pesticides if i can prevent it. it's called "flea combs".... What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day??
11.i start lists like this on Al Gore's internet to get everyone "thinking and doing"......... What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day??

Generally speaking, we recycle to the bst ability we can in this apartment, use TTC to travel in town instead of the car, fans instead of an air conditioner and buy recycled paper products.
On Friday specifically, we're volunteering with three preschool classes to help teach them about pollution and do trash collecting at a park, a beach and the yards.
Good question !

Hey Em, it's always good to hear from you, LOL.

Pat, what you do astounds me and humbles me. I'm not a terrible person about the environment, but I certainly have never gone the extra 100 yrds that you do. So, instead of feeling guilty about it, I'm gonna use it to motivate me to conserve energy in my home, my car and at work. I never litter, but I have thrown my cigarette butts on the ground, so I will stop that. I do recycle, but have been lazy about it from time to time, so I will make a greater effort in that dept. too. When I shower I turn off the water when I'm not actually standing under it, not for the noble cause of conserving water, but because I like it that way. I don't want to do this just for one day, but to make it a part of my daily routine. Thanks for the reminder Pat, you're a good woman. TgrsPurr, xo.

tgrspurr, i'm going to act like i didn't see the part about the cig butts. What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day??

i also save my 'veggie' cans and with a little work, make little candle holders that i hang outside....take can, pierce holes through in interesting patterns, put piece of wire on and add candle...really cool..i also use newspapers for mulch....lay three sheets down, wet it....three more sheets, wet it.......add cheap potting soil....wet it.......the papers rot and it becomes wonderful, wonderful topsoil that you can turn into your soil....it works beautifully around trees that need extra nutrients...you can use as many layers as you want to.

`*~*~*~*~*~*~*COME on folks, let's make "Mother Earth" happy...she really, really needs us*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Great topic and sharing of ideas What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day??
I usually do the same, almost on a daily basis, at home they laugh the way I grab something out of the trash that belongs in the recycle receptacle, I bet you do too, eh? ha!ha!
If I see litter I pick it up, if water is dripping in a public bathroom I am using I tighten the hot and or cold knobs.
I hate when people wipe their hands and leave the paper napkins on the sink counters in public bathrooms, a lot of things that annoy me in those places, but I won't even get started, ha!ha!
A nice thing to do on Earth Day, especially with kids, is to plant something, even a tree or left over Easter/Spring bulbs, etc. Then on every Earth Day you can tell the kids it's the tree or plants birthday What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day??
Just a little thing I use to do with my son when he was a little kid, I'm sure it is nice to do with grandkids too . . . even the neighbor's kids What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day??

Enjoy the day,

DE

Wake up and smell the biosphere collapse!!! Boycott Exxon-Mobil for the duration for their massive misinformation campaigns. Understand that millions have already died from unaddressed environmental problems and that billions of lives will likely be lost. Send the corrupt politicians to prison for taking bribes from fossil fuel interests. Tell the pro-nuke people that the sun is millions of miles away and that is as close to nuclear reactions and waste as you want to be.

The science is clear, only the ignorant, the corrupt and the greedy think more study is needed before massive action and change is necessary.
What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day?? What can You do to Celebrate Earth Day??

I'm all for solar, and wind power, I hope our country starts using more of it.
Some damn science show a few months ago claimed windmills heat the earth with the wind flow, that is better than pollution in my eyes.
Just my 2 cents

If you are American take up smoking, die young and stop using ten times the energy and pollution carrying capacity of the planet than other people in the world. If you are anti smoker get real and look at your smoking stacks and waste dumps all around you and quit discriminating against tobacco users while you burn the life from the planet with consumer greed and ignorance of complicity.

Downs, I don't believe that the ordinary citizen even knows how electricity is generated....When I drive on 285, east of Amarillo, and then hook up with I-40, I always see train loads of coal. I don't think that most people understands where the coal is coming from and at what price to Mother Earth and those who work in the industry.
My boss drives a ****ing Hummer and he shipped it to Nigeria yesterday, his homeland, and now will buy another one for himself..to navigate the paved streets in our town.
I'll NEVER forget driving to a workshop in Yosemite and we could see intense light west of us....finally, we came upon this obscene electric power plant..out in the middle of beatiful country.....I was blown away by the size of it.
I was on the Navajo Reservation on a summer day and I came upon a machine that was bigger than the house I live in.The earth rumbled under that damned thing. Mining for coal. The destruction that the machine had caused blew me away.....
I pray that every poster on these forums will take the time to learn one thing about how we're throwing the earth away and then do whatever is possible for them to do, to slow down the process.........That, alone, would make a huge difference today..........xoxox pat

Good thread Pat...gonna refrain from posting my thoughts since as the wife of a mining engineer (turned soccer coach), I know where coal comes from, how it is extracted, etc. I know more than I ever wanted to know about coal mining and such...lol.

I see the other side of this issue, too, as I had many a discussion with my husband's professors in college. For Earth Day, I talked with 50 third graders about what they could do to conserve the natural resources they use each day.
