This is kind of wierd and not as serious as alot of the stuff on hear, but it's really getting annoying. I get these occasional spells where every sound I hear sounds angry. I always know its happening and that the sounds aren't really angry, but for afew minutes everything, from people's voices to a ringing phone to music to the sound of my own footsteps, will sound abrupt or agitated or incredibly angry depending on the severity. This has happened since I was a kid, and I'm just trying to figure it out. I'll get it any time, talking to people, lying in bed, sitting at a desk, walking, doesn't matter.
any light anyone can shed on this would be much appreciated thanks |

Hi Jeremy and welcome to PC
![]() When you first notice this happening, try to slow it down so you can see where it begins. What are you thinking about? What are you feeling? Are your thoughts and feelings something you allow, or something you push away/deny/disavow? You might notice that when this begins, you are thinking about something that makes you feel angry and you don't want to feel angry or you don't want to have the thought so the anger becomes something from outside of you...rather than from inside of you. Allowing the experience of anger is too frightening for some people. It can feel less threatening if it is anger coming from outside of you, so your mind does that for you as a self-protection. Do you have a psychotherapist who can explore these kinds of experiences with you? |

I've had similar things happen. I can be listening to my favorite play list, then a song comes on that is too "angry" for me to listen to. I also tend to project anger on others. I.e. thinking my husband is angry when he isn't, but I HEAR his tone of voice or read his body language differently then he intends. I think Echoes has great advice, I'm just offering the "I get it" support!

I have BPD and recently again I have been having hallucinations and they are sounding angry to me. My first thought for you would to see a professional asap.

When you hear sounds, it's up to a particular portion of your brain to interpret those sounds. I'm wondering (just a guess) if it isn't simply a chemical short circuit? I mean, maybe your sound interpreter is off or something. Perhaps the combination of impulses that means "angry" is stuck on. Does that make sense? Then, your body corrects itself at some point and it no longer makes false interpretations and it works correctly again until the next time it decides to go on the blink.

But the short circuit might be caused by psychological things -- after all, experiences, now or in the past, affect and change our brains. Otherwise we would remember or learn nothing...

Hi, sorry to drag up an old thread, but i googled almost the exact same thing as the OP and this thread is all i found. Any further advice for someone suffering the same thing?
It doesn't happen often, but when it does, every noise sounds angry and its really hard to shake off. I cant think of any reason why it happens - nothing triggers it that i am aware of, and after a few mins it goes away. Often, drinking a glass of water helps, but i am not dehydrated |

When I feel as though my anxiety is running high, I find myself going through spells where I am unrealistically afraid that everyone or anyone is angry at me. I also have times where I feel hypersensitive to my environment, to where a lot of noise will make me incredibly anxious.
I'm sorry that I don't really have any advice. I'm just sharing a similar experience. ![]() |
