I feel like I am constantly rearranging furniture in my home. It's like I ache until I do it, and then once I rearrange things I feel better. But then a couple days later, I'll rearrange the same furniture all over again.
I suppose it's a stress mechanism because I do it when I'm anxious or when I am about to sit down to do homework. Anyone else rearrange furniture? |

Sorry, ABS9988, I do not do the furniture thing. What does your therapist say?

I wouldn't say it's anything to worry about... If you are doing it 3 times a week you are getting your work outs in

I rearrange everything all of the time. My t and I agree that I do this when I am internally out of control. This gives me external control (hence the itchy feeling that needs to be scratched). Once I get it all changed, I feel better. But as soon as I get upset internally again, I change my house again. Nothing is safe around here, closets, drawers, furniture, paintings, anything movable I move.
Mostly I do this when I am manic, btw.

Obviously none of us on here can tell you if you need a therapist or not, that would have to be something you decide on your own (or with the help of family). If the furniture moving is the only manifestation of anxiety that you have, maybe you're fine and the moving is working well to help you cope with your anxiety. If there are lots of things you do that don't help you cope, but you do them anyway (compulsions) maybe you do need a therapist.
Good luck to you though.

Well, I have considered it, especially for my trich. I keep telling myself I should at least go see the school counselor, but I always find a reason to back out of it. Like I'd be wasting valuable time for someone else...

No way, if you feel you need or want to go see the counselor, go! They are there for you. So you pull your hair as well? What other ocd behaviors do you have? (if you don't mind saying?)

Yes, hair, eyebrows and eyelashes. I have no eyelashes at the moment.
![]() I think it's mainly just the two things. Edit: It's surprising to see someone else from MS on this forum... |
