For the past week or two I have noticed that after eating I tend to get tired/exhausted and sad. I've noticed it especially with dairy products.
Using today as an exact example: Woke up at 6:30, practiced at 7:30, was focused, alert, felt no need for caffeine but was a bit hungry. Went to class at 8:30 and ate yogurt with granola (lowfat yogurt cup, all natural, Dannon + 1/4 cup Kashi granolalike cereal) and an orange. I also drank a lot of water. By 10:00 I was feeling so tired that instead of doing more work I just went home and curled up in bed, a complete change from the 7:30! I started to feel a bit better and then I went up and ate a sandwich (cheese, turkey, multi grain bread), but instead of going to do other things as planned I started feeling tired and sad again just 15-30 minutes after eating! I had a better day later, but again I ate a small dinner at 8 or so and immediately started feeling really sad and almost felt panicky. I really haven't even eaten much today - why is this happening? I'm thinking it's related to the food but I could be wrong... Thanks for reading. Just thought someone here might magically know the answer =)

It sounds like it is certainly related to metabolism. I would ask your dr. I could see having sudden sugar spikes and resultant fatigue if you were on a diet of Twinkies, but you eat really well!

Sometimes carbs can cause tiredness shortly after eating. Everything in your breakfast had carbs, and both the cheese and bread in your lunch had carbs. This could be the problem, although the lunch was quite a bit lower carb than the breakfast. For your breakfast, try omitting the orange and having something that is high protein, this might help. Definitely talk to your doctor about it though. This could be an indication of a problem.
I am diabetic, and your breakfast in particular would send my sugar far too high. Which among other things would make me very tired and cause a headache.

You are eating pretty well, at least it's not junk food. Are you anxious or panicky about anything unrelated to your eating?

Could you maybe be hypoglycemic? I know that you have a good, complex carb diet but if it is getting kind of bad, it might be acting up more than ussual. I would get a doctor to look into it if you can.Huggs and I hope you can get to the bottom of this.

If you have noticed it especially with dairy, you could have a lactose "intolerance".......certain medications can effect the guts' ability to break down complex compounds in food......
If you can cut dairy for 2 weeks and see how you feel......I also do not eat dairy, for similar reasons. I am also going through hormone disfunction which contributes to feeling awful. But dairy is a nasty.......try and also cut bread out, steam all vegetables lightly(no raw food...it can aggravate the gut which will make you feel tired and sad) and keep fruit to a minimum(sucrose can also effect the gut)....... Try it for 2 weeks and see how you go...... Mics

If you can, see a doc or nutritionist. If not, try experimenting with your diet. Try going a few days without dairy, try a few days without wheat... could be any number of things including an allergy or sensitivity. I've been emotionally distressed lately, so I've had no appetite despite being hungry. A lean cuisine is literally too much for me to eat... and this is coming from a big time food addict. Sometimes our minds can effect our bodies to extremes without us even realizing it much of the time.
