I got a $110 ticket yesterday for speeding. Its my first one. My dad is going to be absolutely pissed w me. I cant have that right now I'm not stable enough to handle it. Any ideas on how to handle the situation. I have to tell him bc he has to go to court with me. So I'm screwed in my opinion but if anyone has any ideas or experience in this it would be much appreciated.

No matter what he's going to be mad.. I doubt he will go ballistic..Your going to have to tell him soon.. Psych your self up and be prepared so you don't take it so hard when he gets mad..reassure him it won't happen again..

Why do you have to go to court? Can you find the money to just pay it?

Wait until he's in a happy mood and then be honest. Say "Dad I know you're going to be mad but I got a speeding ticket - I'm really sorry". Speed can kill so do try to abide by the speed limit from now on. Good luck.

Just be honest with him. He won't be pleased, but it won't be the end of the world either. We've all been there. As a parent, I much prefer to know honestly and quickly than to find out later.

I would ask him how old he was when he got his first speeding ticket (assuming he did) and go from there.

Sorry to hear about your first ticket. I remember how I felt when I got my first one. It's very hard to tell our folks these things.

Now, I don't know what kind of sense of humor your Father has, but this response should only be taken seriously if he is safe enough as a father that he wouldn't hurt you in any way...otherwise don't do it.

I'm not trying to make light of your situation, but if done well, this technique could work to your benefit. I guess I'm trying to say that I am not saying this to be insensitive...that's not how I mean it at all. I'm saying it with a sense of humor in mind.

Take him into the kitchen....tell him to sit down because you need to talk with him and start making a pot of tea. Give him a minute or two to sit there wondering what's going on. Sigh really loudly...like you've got a lot on your mind...(and you will). Then pour him a cup of tea, sit down next to him at the table. Let your eyes get a little watery and let your chin quiver a bit. Tell him "Daddy...I...uhm...I took a test today. Uhm....I took it twice actually. Uhmm...Daddy....the stick turned blue. I'm pregnant."

Give him a moment so it will sink in, and then when he gets that look in his eyes, like Bambi in the headlights and he starts to freak, you can say "actually Daddy...I'm not pregnant. I got a speeding ticket today."

Thanks guys. I'm going to do it tonight. T says its like a bandaid just to rip it off. Elysium- that's awesome dont think it would work w my dad tho plus i broke up w my exguy about 2 months ago and have been laying low since then worst guy experience of my life. Perna- I need to go to court because its my first one and if i pay double and plead guilty they will take it off my record so thats why i have to go to court. I just hope i can leave my anxiety out of the courthouse. had a nice panic attack in front of police man he just walked away. ugh i hate cops.

Perhaps you should put 911 on speed dial before this conversation.

Well Daddy took it okay. Luckily my ACT came in the mail today and I can get into Harvard if i want to. So i told him both at the same time. They sort of canceled each other out. However i still have to pay 220 dollars so I'm going to be starting a donate to Kat campaign. Donations gladly accepted. You guys can send them in the mail. LOL jk

Glad that bandaid is ripped off! I'm happy for you that he took it so well. And why wouldn't he? Harvard?!! That's great! Congrats! Good luck on court day and remember to breathe. It will be over soon and you won't have to see or deal with anyone from the courthouse again. Hopefully....
