I saw my nurse and pdoc today. The nurse said I was dxed with schizoaffective instead of just bipolar because of social dysfunction... the pdoc was like "ehh, they are the same thing, it doesn't matter, but you did have some strange beliefs"

what should I say when I see them again?

((BC)) Id definitely google that one and see if you feel you are a fit for Schizoaffective disorder. Bipolar disorder and Schizoaffective disorder differ in many ways. I'd also ask the Dr. to be more specific, because it does matter.

Well i have schizoaffective disorder and I just have to say one thing:
DON'T take zeldox!!! it is so bad it makes you a zombie, it cripples your memory and it causes sleep problems...of course that's just for me so maybe you are different.
But it is a new drug and they don't have much research about. I wish I knew all that before I let my doctor switch me to it. I am now off zeldox and taking olanzapine. olanzapine does cause weight issues but it doesn't have any of the social problems that zeldox has. I think it's better to be overwieght and sociable then to be the same weight and a zombie. zeldox doesn't help you lose weight either. it just keeps you the same weight your at and it's very had to lose weight on it.

Hmmm ...I think it matters if one is wanting to know specifically what their issues are in order to understand them. One pdoc may say they are the same yet another points out specific differences.

I think though that if it were me I'd plant the doc and demand to know what he meant about your beliefs, that sounded like a not too thinly veiled attempt at sarcasm and judgementalism; Harry (my name for an atheist non-god), knows we have enough problems to deal with,

I think about my beliefs, he was talking about my past delusions, and once I admitted that I thought briefly people were reading my mind. But I believe I have Bipolar 1 with mood related psychosis, not schizoaffective, since I had such delusions during my severe mood episodes.

I want to bring up ADHD too, because I'm curious if meds would help, but now I'm on three meds for the one disorder I have and I don't know about adding on to that. I was dxed ADHD as a kid.

Then there's Asperger's, but I already talked about that with them and they said no...

Basically I don't know what's going on with my mind.

I see... though I do think that what comes out regarding your illness is not something that should be commented on that way by a pdoc. If anything it could damage your strength of trust in them. We go to doctors for help not judgement; I mean we do know they will make their own judgement as far as the diagnoses are concerned, but personal comment on the actual symptoms is wrong because you as the patient having the episode have no control over what happens and what comes out.

Maybe because I'm feeling very low at the moment this sounds worse to me than it does to you? I'm not sure, but I would plant and demand...paranoia I guess...

So love your avatar, my partner photographs birds...so I'll show him your pic,

Rhi
