My daughter, Abby, is having brain surgery on Monday. She's 4. She was born with a condition called toxoplasmosis, and from my understanding it's an infection in the brain that occurs before birth. She has had one brain surgery in the past ( when she was a few months old) and had a shunt placed in her brain to drain extra fluid. She also has hydrocephalus, which means that spinal fluid builds up on her brain and it doesn't filter properly like a normal brain does. She's having a new shunt put in since the one she has now keeps getting clogs for some reason... and when that happens she gets very sick. I'm worried to near death. Please keep her in your prayers!!

She shall be in my prayers, as well as you.

Take care,
DE

Note: This may be of interest to any expectant moms,
Toxoplasmosis can be transmitted by being exposed to changing or cleaning cat litter pan, many doctors advise expectant moms to have someone else care for the family cat till after the baby is born. I can't remember if it had to do with inhaling air/dust from the litter or physical contact while doing the actual cleaning, it's been 18yrs since my one and only child was born, so my memory is hazy.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and kind words. DE, toxoplasmosis has now been proven to be caused by other animals as well. But it's most commonly caused by the cat. I happened to live with my mom in law when i got pregnant with Abby, and she had a cat. I never changed the litter pan, but apparently was infected some other way. Maybe by inhaling the dust like you said...I'm not sure. Thanks for posting that though... I'm sorry, I didn't think to tell what caused it...so thanks. Daughter having Brain Surgery...need prayers.

Hi Jen
Hope the operation goes well.
Many years ago I worked ina Barnardos home for physically handicapped children. We had lots of children there with hydrocephalus and hence shunts. I remember several of them having replacements, either because they got blocked or as the children grew . I know it is scary for you but I am sure it will all go well. Thinking of you and Abby.

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Hugs and Prayers}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

My daughter had surgery just a few weeks after she turned 5. She had a tumor--benign, thankfully--growing inside her face on the cheek.

Jen,

Your daughter, you, & your family are in my prayers for during the surgery & for the healing afterward. Being the one that is waiting, your stress level must be through the roof by now. Hold on....& I'm sure everything will go fine.

Jen,
I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. I hope my note about toxoplasmosis didn't upset you, it wasn't meant to be, seeing that mentioned, just reminded me of another fear I had during pregnancy. I didn't even have a cat, but I worried about everything. Daughter having Brain Surgery...need prayers.
