haha.. i notice the snaity detector didn't reject the doc's post... coincidence?

birdie... if you look at the reaction you had and how the idea of "supernatural" stuff happening is sending you into near crisis, is it any wonder that a site would recommend against it for MI peeps? In all the years i spent working with ill people i can tell you that spiritual/religious stuff is one of the top things to really mess them up.

it's the very fact that one cannot prove or disprove things of that nature (which is why they are called faith-based) that causes issues... i wouldn't try to dissuade someone from believing in something spiritual if it doesn't cause outright harm, but hallucinations can take on the form of spiritual experiences (and some might say it's the opposite). Either way... it can be difficult to navigate and create a lot of problems if you don't have guidance from someone you feel you can trust.. seek that in the flesh birdie. Online would not be the best place for someone in mental health crisis to seek spiritual information imo...

i am guessing that site has had it's share of problems and that's the reason for the recommendation

one can't sue a site for limiting it's membership... try joining the MAsons and see what happens

hmmm, a sidetrack here - but are we suggesting that being, for example, a believing christian (or whatever religion) could have negative effects on our problems?

I guess they are thinking they will weed out unneccessary efforts on their part, spiritually speaking. If the person is "simply" having some type of mental episode that does not require interpreting, etc, I guess maybe they thing they are wasting their time or something? That is ridiculous, though, to ban people. They should use their own discernment to decide what they feel about the person and wether or not they are benefiting from being there, etc. Not everyone with mental illness thinks Jesus is on their toast. We have real encounters also. Sheesh.

I don't understand this very much, I guess someone that is mentally ill could have spiritual-like hallucinations, but to bar everyone that has mental disorders from participating...

Sorry if this topic is not appropriate, but I'm steamed.

But I read that when I was almost in crisis last night, again. Actually the seemingly supernatural stuff that seems to be going on with me is sending me over the edge and that is what that site talked about. I am on a cancellation list to see a pdoc right now, wish me luck!

It is very big of you to acknowledge such a mistake, especially after making a big scene, such as you did. To me, you seem very accountable and truly one to look up to. I wish you the best of luck with your doctor's appointment.

Have a good one.

They are placing the onus and the responsibility on the member to not participate when they are liable to have an episode.

It's the member's responsibility to withdraw themselves temporarily or permanently at their own discretion.

What's wrong with that !!!!!

Forums are supposed to be an extra to life in the round where one can check out all sorts of social cues. In forums none of us knows why the other members are posting what they are posting, really. We have to rely solely on the words. This is also the reason we can put another user on "ignore" mode.

Another member can be describing alleged "spiritual" experiences solely to wind people up. Someone who is on the verge of an episode is going to be least able to see through this and the first to be wound up by it.

It's our own job to decide whether the forum content is doing something good for us or not.
