but i just noticed that the admn and mod are in "private mode". i'm just curious about it. has it been explained and i missed it? i don't mind knowing what you guys are reading......

one possibility is...docjohn is doing maintenance this weekend and it might be a result of what's going on in that process right now? just thinking on white.

i know that it generally shows "reading a post in flat mode", stuffs regarding pm's etc. i've never noticed it to show me as private before. i've not changed my profile, so i would think that it has something to do the the maintenance going on.

Kimmy I think it's shown you as private since you went admin??? I could be mistaken... but I watch online page more than most, I think.... doesn't mean I remember more than most though :O

I have a dumb question. How do you get your profile to show "private"? I've set mine to show I'm online, but not to show where I am viewing, but it never seems to show me as private.

That's one of the reasons I go invisible at times, since I can't seem to get it to show private.

Am I missing something?

i don't think it will show you as private all of the time. what you can do is just what you did...check to not show the post you're reading. it will continue to show that you are reading a post, checking pm's, etc. at least that's my understanding of it.

Actually, I don't remember the admin/mods promising to stay off "private" mode, but they did agree to be visible.

I'm private? I never marked myself as private.

Now I'm really confused. Maybe it's the maintenance, as sky said.

lmo, we're visible...our names show. you're correct.

the mods/admin did agree to show visible so that members will know who's online if they should need. that's correct. however, it's the individual mod/admin decision to show or not show the post they're reading. that was/is my understanding of it anyhow.

Sorry, I think I got two issues mixed up here. I'm actually asking how I can make my profile say "private" and still show me online. I guess I should have asekd this on a different thread than one about whether the mods/admin show online or not?

I'd like to be able to show that I'm online, but not who whether I'm reading a post, checking who's online, replying to a PM or whatever. That's what I assumed the "private" mode was. But I can't seem to get my profile to show "private". Is that something that posters can do? Should I be asking this under the technical forum instead?

gg, to my knowledge i think the only thing that won't show is the post that you're reading when you select the privacy option for that...it will still show the rest. then there's also the "invisible" option.

again, to my knowledge, i think you're doing what the software allows for there.

i'm not positive on that, but that's all i've ever seen and known. i wish i could give you a for sure answer.

I hope its just something from the updates that have been made. All the admin have shown "private" since Friday I think. It is kind of reassuring to know what you all are doing even if we can't see the post you are reading. I don't like the "private".

All three red names being "Private" is kinda spooky.

Makes me feel like I'm being watched.

Like I can't trust the people who were supposed to be the safe ones.

make yourself invisible then. what could you possibly be doing that you're worried about other people watching?
