i received this from The American Humane Society...

fur free friday was last week, but i thought some of you might be interested in checking this out. they use the fur coats for hurt and abandoned, trapped, etc. wild babies to sleep in. such as a baby raccoon in a mink coat sleeve.

IF you inherited any fur garments or still have some from your “early years” -- before you learned the shocking truth about the fur industry -- please visit www.CoatsforCubs.org to see if there is a drop box in your area today. If you are unable to visit any of the Coats for Cubs locations, please check www.hsus.org/furdonation to find out about mailing in your donated fur and fur-trimmed items.

Pat, as someone who has signed the Fur-Free pledge, you know that wearing fur or fur trim contributes to needless animal suffering and death, and all of us can help expose the hidden cruelty stitched into every fur garment. Thank you for being part of the solution and easing the suffering endured by the more than 40 million animals killed for the fur trade each year.

Sincerely,

Wayne Pacelle
President & CEO

This is terrible...not your posting, but the fact that people love to wear fur of our wonderful furry friends...such an outrage to me!

Harry and the Hedersons is one of my favorite movies.

Giving old furs to baby critters, instead of burying them, as Harry wanted done, is a great idea. I'll keep my eyes peeled at the thrifts. Yo, fayerody, Thanks for the heads up!!

I don't have any fur to share but I will keep looking for those that do. I am glad that they found a use for those that were already made into clothing. It is sad what people will do to be "stylish".

All I found in my Mothers cloths was a rabbit fur jacket.....thinking that rabbit fur is similar to leather because rabbits are also raised for food & that is a byproduct of the food process.

I hate real fur & wouldn't be caught dead wearing it. I remember when I was a child, my Grandmother had to have her fur stole (think it might have been fox), because it was a symbol of class.....which she was into. I am not sure where her things went to because with her altzhimers, she gave everything away or tore it up & threw things away.

I was against the wearing of real fur before anyone ever made an issue of it. I always lover the animals & even as a child would confront anyone wearing real fur. I love the faux fur....& have many cloths with it on......I really wish I had access to the old furs my grandmother had in order to do something good with them. I will keep a lookout for any real fur, now that I know there is a way to put it to good use.

Thank you for your post....I think it is wonderful that you have brought it to our attention.

Jax, I don't wear fur, and have been anti-fur since I was little, but I do eat meat, and I'll wear leather (because the cow gets eaten; it's not just killed for its skin). I do feel a bit like a hypocrite, but not because I think you can't be anti-fur while still being ok with meat and leather, but because I love animals, HATE for them to suffer, and I don't specifically buy cruelty-free products.

I am not up-to-date on animal rights and welfare issues, which I would like to be, but I care about so many issues, it's hard to keep up. I realize I may be wrong in that perhaps there are times when cows and other animals used for leather are killed solely for their skins. I don't believe animals should be killed or harmed for our vanity. Meat is arguably a necessity. Some will say it is, some will say it isn't. The point is, nutrition is necessary, being in fashion is not. We no longer need furs to keep warm.

What I'm NOT hypocritical about, but some people think I am, is that, despite eating meat, I hate killing. I've gotten into arguments with people who think that I have to enjoy the killing (I don't do it myself, but they think I should understand a hunter's joy of killing) in order to enjoy the meat. I might enjoy the results of plastic surgery, too, but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy the pain. I think it's pretty simple, and don't really care if others don't get it, but I can enjoy food without enjoying the process that went into making or obtaining it.

I'm confused. What do they do with the fur after they've recieved it from donators?
I don't have any animal-less fur in my home. It grosses me out. But I'm curious as to what they do with all the furs.

dottie, they take the coats and such and make pockets and sleeves for the wild baby animals to sleep in. so they will feel as though they have a mother to sleep with.
