I want to quit this dumb job. No, not because I'm a spoiled teenage brat that doesn't want to work. That's not the case. I do want to work, this job just isn't right for me. I'm very soon going to be involved in my school's Art Club, possibly as a council member since I helped start it up again, in addition to taking college classes in art and writing.......in addition to helping out at my old middle school with my former teacher's writing club every other Wednesday. That's a lot, and I'm very much looking forward to Art Club. This is something I've wanted to do since freshman year. But it's not just this stuff that makes me want to quit. It's everything. I just want a job as a library page or something - anything that's more my speed. This is too fast-paced for me. I feel bad for wanting to quit so soon.....but those of you that know the history with this thing could have probably seen this coming, no? I just don't know if I should quit.....I guess what I need to ask myself is "is it worth it?" And I have been, many times. Crappy pay is my reward for hours of severe anxiety, no free time for school or the things I mentioned above, and the fact that for whatever reason the people that are BELOW ME get the better jobs while I'm stuck cleaning toilets.

Hmmmm. Indie, do you need the money? Will it be hard to find another job? So far as I'm concerned, and I'm not familiar with you or your situation, those are the only two questions that are relevant. If you need the money, and if it won't be hard to find another job, take a walk. If you don't need the money, take a walk. You have no moral obligation toward your present employers. It's not silly, or selfish, or whatever to quit any job you may have, provided you've seriously thought about any possible negative consequences. So it's really, really, really not a matter for self-torture.
Are you supporting a family? Or are you simply responsible for yourself? That too needs to be asked and answered. Really, it's not worth all that internal struggle. Some people (including me) even think that having had many different kinds of jobs is a plus. A broader experience base. Tending in the future to a greater degree of personal calm when all kinds of life events happen. You sound very unhappy in this present job. So, either if you don't need the money or if you can find another, better job easily, take a walk! It's really not the biggest deal in the world. Take care! ![]()

Oh, Indie, welcome to the world of working. Good thing those that hire and pay cannot read minds. Ofcourse the decision is yours but the fast food type businesses are often frustrating and customers and even that environment is a fast service, I expect it right now situation. I can't blame you for not liking it, but you have to weigh your need for money in your pocket and how to achieve that. That is the name of the game for everyone, welcome to reality, it is a struggle. But I will tell you there are those out there that are willing to do anything to put food on the table and get by, and they too put aside their gruff to get stuff. Open Eyes |

What is the job? What is your job title? It really depends on if it will help with you getting another job and if it looks good or not on your resume. Having a job of any sort can look good on you resume as it shows that you can work but on the other hand if this job is yuck and not helpful to your career you don't necessarily have to include it. Is the job just for money or for your career? If it's too stressful to your health don't do it!
Good luck. ![]()

I think if you don't need the money and want more time for school activities....Quit! You only get to do this school stuff one time you have your whole life to work! Take a break if you can, you can get a fast food job any time. Just leave this job on a good note...give them notice and tell them the truth you need more time for school.

Thank you so much everyone......I'm a team member at Tim Hortons. Psh, should be easy right? I don't know - no job in a fast-paced environment is as simple as people seem to think it might be. I just got off work with a check for $150 in my pocket, feeling pretty darn good about myself right now. For that reason alone I think I'll probably end up sticking with it, at least for a few months while putting in my applications elsewhere. No, I don't have to support a family. I don't have to work to support myself, even. But I do need to grow up. I'm 17 years old and don't want to rely on Mommy and Daddy to buy me stuff (lol). I'm only working a couple days a week - if I can work out my schedules without pissing off my boss, I think I will be able to juggle both school and work. In the meantime I'm going to apply for a page position at the local library. At the end of the day, I need to work to support my immaturity - I'm the type of person who will buy more clothes so that I don't have to wash the ones I've already got. Sad, huh? I guess it's the age.

not sad. Honestly, I've worked at Dunkin donuts as a seasonal job and it's hard. HARD. And you're stuck doing all the dirty work that people take totally for granted then having to deal with customers freaking out because they got their order a SECOND late or something. Grrrrr. It can really REALLY bad for self esteem.
So i get where you're coming from. I think a job is a good thing to have IF you can manage it. Makes you feel independent and starts getting some money for you to spend or save *or both*. But right now school and your health should be most important. What are your goals past school? Are you thinking of college? What kind of job would you like instead of Hortons or something similar? Tough questions, but these questions also come with the age ![]() PS - I'm just about to graduate college and I wish I'd TRULY asked myself these career questions sooner than I did.
