Actuelly more specific to the cat owners.
I'm not a cat person and never have been but i mean no harm to the little critters... Anyway recently we've been having this big fat cat running around in our garden almost once a day... I wouldn't mind this but we have animals to and one of them could be hurt by the cat... So each time as i let him out i worrie sick that the cat isn't gone come and hurt him!

other then that is it possible for a cat to get on top of a roof of a 2 floor high house?
Every couple nights i've been hearing something on the roof... At first I startle pritty bad and then i hear the tip tip tip tip. It certainly sounds like four feet. And it couldn't be a bird anyway since it's not heavy enough to hear that loud i think...

mayby an odd question but the forum does say general Little question to you all.

If you have a tree close to the roof, I'd say yes.

Many years ago, when I first was married, we lived in Garden Apts.. We lived on the top floor, so the roof "was ours", ha!ha!
Okay, you wouldn't believe this, but several nites, above our bed we'd hear noise coming from above the ceiling, running, thumping, chewing and then leftover pieces of wood, I guess from when the complex was built, first the office thought it was squirrels, set traps and got them, BUT it wasn't them, this continued only at night, squirrels sleep at night, I know cause I had raised 2 who lost their moms. It turned out to be raccoons. We found this out when they were running around and fell through the crawl space pull down flap. They ran around, cops came with animal control and caught them with a snoose, caged them and away they went. What smell, when they were cornered in our room, out of fear/stress one left pee, that smelled like rotting fish, horrible, took awhile to get the stench out.
They figured the raccoons were climbing up the downspouts or from trees behind the complex, found a whole that was later fixed, where they would enter the building through the roof.
I would say it isn't a squirrel, but with critters, anything may be possible. Raccoons can be cute, but I would suggest if it turns out thats your roof dweller, call animal control, raccoons can contrat rabies and transmit the disease. In animal care/control fields most of us have had our rabies shot, as a preventative measure. But the average person usually has not or ever had the vaccination. So, let them remove it.
Well I wish you luck with finding what critter is on your roof. After seeing what the raccoons did, I'd lean to them before cats, but I have had cats but are more of a dog person. So, I wouldn't know if this is common with cats. If mice scamper around at night, it may be possible the cat is going after them.
It will be interesting to hear when you find out, let us know.

Take care,
DE

BTW
I forgot to say, the sound had a lot more weight than birds too, ha!ha! Like medium size dogs running around. I had been seconds shy of them falling through, on top of me cause the crawl space flap, was above the bathroom door and linen closet, I was ready to open the bathroom door and hubby said don't open the door, it's raccoons!! I thought he had dropped something in the linen/utility closet. Little question to you all.

Cats are amazing animals so it is possible.... but all in all I would say that your own animals are safe - due to the fact that cats usually run away when approached by another animal or a stranger.

Yep, that's true. This cat may be chasing some rodents, mice, voles or moles, so I wouldn't give much concern, just may be helping you keep the garden safe from damages, and the nice part of it, no chemicals needed. Little question to you all.

It could be a cat, but also could be other small animals as well. I know my cats have gotten in the strangest places and I have no idea how they've gotten there.

cats are amazing "jumpers" and can jump many feet if needs I once had a cat and lived in an upstairs appartment. the appartment was sold and the new owners made the proberty a no pets allowed so I gave my cat to a nearby friend who lived in a trailer park. EVERY time she let the cat out because she didn't do litterpans that cat would go up the nearest tree 10 - 15 feet away from the trailer, and jump from the tree onto the trailer roof. Her boyfriend ended up building a sort of cat stairs behind the trailer so that he could go up and down without all of us going up after him.
