I need help finding some kind of online support group, as good as this one, that focuses on IBD.

My 26 year old son is struggling with being newly diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. It is kicking his *** mentally and physically. We are trying to find a local support group, but in the meantime, an online group would be very helpful for him, his wife, and his mom and dad.

(His doctor has not been helpful in this regard. That is another issue. He is soon to be fired and replaced as soon as we can find a better one.)

Your suggestions would be very welcome.

Try WebMD:
www.webmd.com/hw/irritable_bowel_syndrome/shc66.asp

I know they have support groups there.

Thank you. I will send this info to my son.

It seems that this malady does not have nearly the same level of internet support activity as mental health issues. My son is a software engineer and his wife is a wired nerd. Maybe they can kick something into gear.

My son has it, too. His "quack" put him on Zoloft! They're masking the symptoms, if you as me!

Tomi,

Is he only on Zoloft? Is that it? The zoloft will help with the depression that often comes with a chronic illness, but he needs realy UC meds!

Hugs,

Jan

As far as I know, that's all the quack gave him... to aleviate the anxiety and stress he's under. John says he quit taking it after a month. I haven't spoken to him about it to know how he's doing now.

I know he needs real treatment for it, but he doesn't listen to me any more.

There is an active IBD group at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/colitiscrohns/

It is nothing like here, but this is a rare gem of a place.

In my son's case, they have given him meds for the disease and ignored his mental health issues 100%.
