So yesterday I was fired from my job of 4 1/2 years.
![]() The other thing is I have to start over at another job. I miss the people I work with already. Granted most of them have been texting me all day but I feel kind of like a failure at times. I know I shouldn't because stuff happens. It is all a lesson learned. I can't help sometimes feeling really down about this. I feel like if it was not for the episodes work would not have been so complicated to begin with. I'm glad I had my meds back 2 weeks ago because I wonder just how bad it would have effected me if I did not. I really hate a lot of things. At the same time I feel kind of renewed but it is really scary. It just feels like a lot of emotions all at once. Feel a little lost but found at the same time. I have bills to pay which the unemployment should be able to cover till I find a job. But what happens in 30 days? How will I afford my meds if I don't find another job with insurance? How will i cope with missing the people? What about college? ack so many unknowns it's so aggravating! have to tell myself one thing at a time i guess grrrrrrrrr

you can pay for COBRA which would continue the exact same insurance you had at work, only you pay the entire monthly premium (to your employer). it's available for like 18 months I think, but you have to keep it up continuously, like you can't skip a month or be late with a payment. good luck.

triciadrich,
Wow, that must have made your world feel a little "topsy-turvey" to being employed to no job. Sounds like initially your coping well. Hang on and hang in there while you transition into the next phase of your life-whatever that is. Be gentle with yourself. Your structure has just been taken from you, source of income, friendships and some social structure. That's alot so again, please be gentle with yourself. Keep in touch/posting-your on a new adventure-ride the wave, baby! |

That had to be something of a surprise, that you are dealing with it so well is great. It might be delayed shock, or you just might have great coping skills for this issue. Maybe underneath it wasn't really a surprise and you knew it subconsciously but if you were fired because of your "episodes" connected to your illness I believe thats illegal. You might want to check with an advocacy and protection agency(like Disability Rights-there is one in every state) if that is the case. You mentioned episodes so I'm assuming and thats always risky, but I just wanted you to know you might have that option if it was at all related to your illness, obviously I don't know any of the circumstances or if it applies.
I hope things continue to go smoothly emotionally and you find work quickly.

It was not a big surprise. I worked in a warehouse. I had been having issues getting errors when picking items. I was on a final warning for it. I knew about 2 weeks ago that i had already made too many errors for the period. I almost put my two week notice in at the time to avoid being fired since I have never been fired before. Per others advice I changed my mind and hoped for the best. The reason for the hope was that one other in the past had problems with errors as well and was simply moved to another department. However we had a different manager at the time who didn't make a buisiness of firing people. Corporate has gotten more strict.
I can't say it had anything to do with my episodes they were actually very understanding of those and gave me leaves of absence without me even having to ask. I do however think most of my errors stem from me not coping well with my MI as i always had so much on my mind and had a hard time focusing.

That sucks! Ive been creating my battle plan today and wasted no time applying for unemployment. I have a friend at my ex work that runs a nursery(plants) and might have me help out on the weekends and pay me under the table.

That's tough, it would have been nice to have a transfer. It's great though to have friends that might be able to help tied you over while looking for work.
Good luck
