I don't know where else this goes but I am so frustrated! I There are so many sick scary things that go on in this worldand all I ever want to do is fix it. I have this aching, nagging feeling that I should be the one to fix the world. That if I only had the chance, I could fix all of the problems. How? I don't know but the feeling doesn't go away. I just want to fix everything.
I get so frustrated at all of the selfish ignorant people that are so rude and hurtful. It makes me want to slap them until they realize what they are doing. I just want to move to Antartica and start my own country, a country free from abuse, free from theft, free from anger, crime, prejudice, just a place where everyone can take care of eachother and themselves, a place where everyone gets along, where everyone loves everyone and no one wants to cause pain...
Antartica, it's always been my dream. I've always felt that way. A country free from people would be the only way to see this actually happen. Anyone else ever feel this way?
I just don't get why people have to be so horrible, why every time I turn on the news there is a heart breaking triggering story. Why can't a day pass where someone is not being hurt?
If you're like me and believe in heaven, I guess that will be the place when I leave this world. But I just wish there was a place here on Earth. A place to escape all of this pain hatred and sickness. I wish I owned Antartica, population would probably only be 10, but it would be the best 10 people you know.

I do feel sort of like that. I was actually talking to my bf last night about it actually. I posted something sort of similar a long time ago. I received some flack for it, but I think I was really misunderstood. What I'm trying to say doesn't always come out clearly.

Ever notice on the utopian movies that things usually go wrong? Well in the movies they have to, if it went really well there would be no conflict or drama and who would watch that. I would live to love in a society that was free from abuse and all the other bad stuff, I've seen and dealt with enough of it. I struggle with this a lot. I sometimes feel like I'm not of the world, I struggle with .. Is how I feel healthy or harming me.

I don't think it is harming me, what's harming me is all the bad stuff going on. Maybe I'm highly sensitive to it, maybe I should have a thicker skin or psyche. However it takes all kinds to make this world go round and balance it out.

Right now I've been pretty upset because the valley I live in is covered in smog. The people here call it "haze". You used to be able to see the mountains clearly, now they look blue, and foggy. Calling it haze reminds me of the London Fog and we saw what happened with that. But it seems like a lot of people, government ect. just don't care, it makes me depressed and feel helpless. Anyways that's just my current issue. I totally get where your coming from.
Thanks for this!

Well then you are most definately invited to Antartica if I ever own it

I don't think it says anything about weakness, I think it says more about the size of your heart. People will say all kinds of things negative about feeling this way, they have many many years to me, but in my opinion, it's them trying to make up for the fact that they just don't care and they are trying to make that right by somehow degrading my desire to help or fix things.

If more people wanted the world to be perfect, perhaps things would be different. But people seem to live on drama. The more "interesting" the story the better. I'd like to hear a story that goes along the lines of "I was born with no problems,my mom and dad raised me and were there every step of the way 100% supportive and caring and now I graduated college with kids of my own and now I'm running for president because this country needs some fixing" and they actually fixed it. That seems a better story than anything you see in movies. Too bad it's far from reality...

I completely agree.

I avoid the news and most TV programs, because the world just seems completely obsessed with negativity. Drama after drama. Incredible stories of people trying crazy stuff that they read on the internet, killing themselves and other innocent people. That's daily news. Add the political dramas, recession, and celebrity drama...it's really depressing to me. It only gets worse as the years pass too.

I wish that I could pull myself out of current society and go somewhere else!

I don't have a TV.....haven't had one for 5 years now....but I seem to know about more of the horrible things going on in this world than I was aware of when I did have a TV.

Know there is nothing I can do to change the moral values of those in the world & can see the moral values degrading constantly.....as moral values are degrading & all people are doing is adding to the things that just help the degradation of those values........I cringe.......& talk to those around me who believe the same as I do.....& we band together, knowing that we can't change anything, but the best we can to is hold onto our values & our beliefs no matter what happens around us......sometimes it's the only thing we possibly can do.

Taking a deep breath and hoping this isn't misinterpreted as negative. I'm not really sure if your focus is on society or the news media reporting on it. I'll take teh simple part first. The news media reports what affects viewers/readers/listeners. Also news coverage is is based on what attracts those viewers/readers. The bottom line is the bottom line.
It's also manipulative and/or entertaining as most media is.
The media (news and entertainment) doesn't just reflect and report on what happens in society. It also helps to shape society and culture and what people talk/think about. And even how they view these things. Okay enough about that.

You can't escape. You can be involved e.g. Anika's smog problem. I'd imagine that there are people organized to try to do something to resolve that if it's industrial pollution. Joining in those efforts would be proactive. It's her home. I'm sure she would rather try to fix what's wrong than escape to Antarctica. But here's the thing. People have very different ideas of what is good. If that valley has a smog problem because of industrial activity, the people involved in the industry are going to have an entirely different view on whether the smog is a problem.
And you can relate that to your wish for a perfect president. We all have different ideas on what needs fixing. To me it might be not enough regulation to prevent an industry from causing pollution that would fill a valley with smog.
To someone else it would be too much regulation.
There will never be a perfect president. All elected officials come into office owing favors to someone. The average citizen doesn't have the money or influence to be one of those owed favors.
As far as the violence and crime unnecessary wars etc... that has always been part of life and probably will always be present.

I'm not sure I'm even on the subject you intended. I have a hard time thinking in black and white

You don't have to own it in order to occupy it. In some cases you can petition for ownership after occupying it for a certain number of years. I might be talking out of my a$s, but if you feel strongly about it, DO SOMETHING!! surf the web and search related items you might not have known about before. One way to "fix" things is by dropping out. It's a movement. There are also colonies of people, sometiems called co-ops, sustainable villages, or intentional communities, who have taken residence in places that were previously unoccupied. Try looking up some of these.. even if just for the sake of looking at it. I even signed up to get more info on joining one years ago, but lost interest somewhere along the way.

Thank you for all of the responses. I do agree that the media only plays what we want to hear. They don't play the daily acts of kindness that we see in day to day life, because that would bore the majority of listeners. I don't watch the news because all it does is depress me as well.

But media asside, it doesn't stop the horror of the world we are in now. I live in a very small town and here in this town, there are some of the best people you will ever meet. But despite that, at nearly every place we go there are nasty harsh just inconsiderate people like mentioned above that have no moralls. It's like humanity is just loosing all care for anything but themselves. I'm not looking or hoping for "perfect" because I know I'm not even close I'm just looking for a place where people don't take their own problems out on the world around them. A place where people don't hate you automatically because of some nonsense they have made up in their head. A place where people don't lie cheat or steal to get what they want. A place where murder is un heard of and sexual crimes are enough to be banished.

Crime is everywhere we go, there is evil that just consumes this world and it's sickening. I can understand why people now say that it's selfish to have a child in this world. It kind of is, knowing the way the world is falling and bringing a child into all of this. But I have a child so I guess I'm selfish. Perhaps I'll just find a place in the mountains, somewhere where no one lives near for 100 miles and make a trip once a month into "town" for supplies. Antartica would be too expensive, but that would be ideal.

I just don't get what goes through peoples minds, how they can justify the way the world is today. And as far as a perfect president goes, that will never happen. Sure the government is flawwed more than they do right, but none the less, anything that goes wrong will automatically be the presidents fault so he could never be perfect. What I'm looking at is no one person in charge, that when you say every vote counts, it really means every vote counts (unlike the bush reelection, way to go Florida). Where every decision is put to a vote by the citizens and whatever the citizens vote is what happens. No secrets from the citizens, no lies and deceipt. No extra money to the government because the people would be the government.

For now I guess it will be a dream.

I understand. I've thought about it more than once and the reason is not my social phobia.
