Hi,

My Mom is scheduled for eye surgery in less than a half an hour. It wouldn't be a big deal, but she's a free bleeder and has congestive heart disease. She has also had multiple strokes and heart attacks. Please keep her in your prayers.

I haven't been to sleep at all over night and got much less than I needed night before last. I need to be there for her and also go to the orthopedic place to get my brace fitted and start wearing it at 3:00 p.m. It will completely surround my trunk and compress my chest so that it will be hard to breathe at all times. I'm claustrophobic so it's going to not only be hot and painful, but scary also.

Please keep us both in your good thoughts and prayers today.

Thank you, friends.

Jan

I wish you and your mom the best today. I hope your mom's eye surgery goes well and that you handle the brace well. I suggest using a cool, wet cloth on your face (forehead and temples, especially) and on the back of your neck to stave off panic and to cool your temperature. I find it helps with panic.

Jan, I go with the cold water treatment. I didn't realize the brace was an awful sounding thing. Cold water, ice packs, you name it. As for mom, I hope she does well. It is a bit of a roll of the dice but hang in there. Let us know. Take care.

I hope your mother's surgery went well... and as for the brace, it does sound scary and restricting, but just imagine that it's a corset, and imagine that you can wear some grand clothes to go with it, and now you can feel like a lady of the manor! Mom came through the surgery just fine. She was terrified but did great. She went home with my brother for the night.

My Mom is a long retired nurse and I did not know that she used to work at the Eye & Ear hospital when cataract surgery was a huge, scary thing. That's why she was so afraid. The next eye surgery will be a piece of cake now! Yay!

I'm going to get my brace in about an hour. My breathing will be very restricted. I don't know how heavy it will be, but I do know I must wear a soft shirt underneath it and then at my choosing, I can wear another one over it if I can stand the heat.

Well, I'll check in and give a report later.

Thanks for all your good wishes and prayers.

Hugs,

Jan

Jan, I am so glad your mom is doing well! I am a nurse and sometimes the more you know is not always the best.
Alot of the braces nowadays are pretty lightweight so hopefully it will not be uncomfortable for you. Thank you for keeping us posted.
HUGS

Jan and Mom, Yo, one down one to go..... GOOD JOB MOM. Re: the brace and claustrophobia: instead of confined, try feeling protected, extra secure, snug. I went through a tiny bit of this years ago when I rode a motorcycle and decided my head was worth a helmet to me. Next thing you know, I felt funny without it. I hope it helps whatever it's supposed to help.

I just read this.....a little late, but I am so glad your Mom did well with her cataract surgery. It really has gotten to be just a routine procedure, but I know that even the most routine procedure can have its complications.....glad it went well for your Mom.

I do hope that your brace will work out ok. I only had to wear a brace on my leg for almost a year after having knee reconstruction....when it wasn't an easy surgery like it is today. I know the feeling of clostrophobia when my leg was in a complete leg cast for the month after the surgery. Then to top that off, I had it done in the summer & my a/c went out in my new home & it was over 100 degrees in the house (I had to take time off of work after the surgery). Just that experience makes me feel for you having to deal with a whole body brace. I'm sure it will help you even though it will be very uncomfortable.

Hope everything went well today,
Hugz but no too tight,
Debbie

Hi Friends!

I have my brace. I got it yesterday and it came apart in Kmart yesterday. There was a big noise and it stretched my blouse out in all directions. It startled me so badly and I had to hold my arms just right so the brace wouldn't fall out from under my blouse. It was hysterically funny after I quit shaking! Prayers Needed for Mom & Me Prayers Needed for Mom & Me

They've worked on the brace a couple times today to make it not come apart again and also so it wouldn't rub blisters under my arm. It needs a little more work tomorrow. Those people treat me so well. They are so sweet.

I don't feel claustrophobic in it! Yay!! It's very hot, and I've discovered just how important a man's tshirt can be to wick away the moisture. I had to buy some of the tank top variety men's t shirts to wear under the brace. I think I'm going to to get some lace or something to put around the collara in case they show. We'll see.

Anyway, it's onward and upward from here. Let's hope it doesn't explode againlike a big old girdle giving out with a bang! Prayers Needed for Mom & Me

Hugs,

Jan

Hi Friends!

I have to go back for more adjustments today. I was so worn out that I unplugged my computer because of storms and fell asleep with my clothes on! I woke up a little after 9 this morning and found my candle still burning! Prayers Needed for Mom & Me

I guess wearing the brace makes me tired right now.

Onward and upward, I guess.

Hugs,

Jan
