Whoever wishes to keep a secret must hide the fact that he possesses one.
- Van Goethe

The man who can keep a secret may be wise, but he is not half as wise as the man with no secrets to keep.
- Edgar Watson Huwe

How can we accept another to keep a secret if we have unable to keep it ourselves.
- De La Rochefoucauld

Three can keep a secret if two are dead.
- Benjamin Franklin

Tell your friend a lie and if he keeps it secret, then tell him the truth.

Interesting thoughts.....& definitely good points to remember. I don't like keeping secrets...I always have wondered why it would ever be necessary. Being open & honest has always been my motto in my life with secrets never being necessary for me.

I think some people keep secrets as a way of protecting themselves. Being open and honest is a wonderful way to live, but it assumes that you live with trustworthy caring people all around. Some people respond to openness and honesty by trying to hurt the person who was open and honest with them.

You know what they say at AA: you're only as sick as your secrets.

I hate secrets... Esp family secrets...My grandfather was into something and had powers to heal people and to harm people. My dad got into part of it and quit.. my brother got into part of it and quit... but nobody will explain if what they did was good or evil... or even give a name to what it is...seems there are verses in bible they used... and there is a black book.. weird.. can one do good and evil? .... beats me.... mother running around find folks that removed curses??? boggles my mind...... my sister-in-law told me it could be passed down or certain family members depending on I forget what.. and it could be passed to me, but he said no... Seems it is a family secret... i hate secrets.....

Those of us who have been abused have secrets and that does not make us sick or evil. No one, not one person, knows all about my life. Who I was five years ago is not who I am now. When I meet new people, I don't feel obligated to share my secrets and my past. Accept me for who I am now. Like me or loathe me for whom I am today.

(Of course, that's seven years of therapy talking!) Some thoughts on secrets

Hugs,

Jan

Dear Jan,

I am so SORRY! - if I offended you with my statement, for I to have been through sexual abuse, both as a child and as an adult and I am not SICK.

What I meant by my post was more in the realm of therapy and healing - meaning that we remain as sick as the secrets we keep.

Employers use this one on employees. Beware, especially if you want the promotion or to "stay in the loop."

Jan, whoa nelly, I don't mean to say one has to broadcast one's life in order to be well, it's more the internal journey for me. I have known many people who keep secrets from themselves.... denial, etc. and run in a tight closed loop and get nowhere, stay stuck.

In my life, once I get over myself, and can talk about "stuff", with my t or best friend, the attached old emotions of self blame, guilt, etc., all the negative self talk that digs one's personal ruts deeper, and forstalls healing, kinda starts to loosen up, break up, can be worked with and finally flushed.

Know what I mean jelly bean? We clearer?

(((((((( Rhap & Bunny ))))))))))))

We're just fine. I didn't realize you meant working on internal things. For some strange reason, some people just have to dig into other people's pasts and it's painful, embarrassing and downright rude. I don't understand those folks.

I do understand trying to be totally honest with self and working hard toward healing! That rocks! Some thoughts on secrets

Hugs,

Jan
