i have had it with teachers thinking they can get away with treating special need's children like dirt its no wonder why so many special needs children wind up with psychological problems as well, i was diagnosed with adhd when i was 3 or 4 and school was a constant struggle for me because i believe that i never had adhd i was just under-stimulated and bored because i was slightly more advanced than my fellow students but was forced to slow down in order to work at their pace which lead me to become a lousy student in my later high school years, if i was allowed to work at my own speed im more than certain that i would've been a honor student but that's just my own opinion which really never mattered to any of my ****ing teachers especially my 6th grade one. what she did to me was a doozie: 6th grade was the worst year of my life my teacher didn't care enough about her job as a teacher to actually do anything that would expand my mind, all she would do was stick me in a corner and forbade me from moving all i could do was just read book after book while slowly dying inside the assistant principal was just as bad as my teacher. the clincher was when another teacher tried to sneak up behind so she could grab me feeling panicked i raised my hands up in defense , nearly got arrested for that. i was lucky that a bunch of other students saw what happened and rallied in support of me in the end all 3 lost their jobs which was a hallow victory because the psychological damage has already been done because of her and those two other monsters i have extremely low self esteem issues i hope to high heaven that they never see me as i am now because im more than ready to kick all 3 of their self centered asses and not care if they make it to the hospital or not vengeance is a bad *** mofo and those so called teachers better be prepared to battle because we special needs people are angrier than a swarm of killer bees BOOM |

I'm really sorry you went through all this. No wonder you were triggered by the vid.
I wasn't a special needs student since we don't have that in my country, but I do know what it's like to be discriminated by the teachers. I couldn't always study as much as I needed to because of my mental issues, I know that now as I knew it then. But all those years of being treated like I was stupid did contribute to the plummeting of my already shaky self-esteem. On the bright side, it's a good thing knowing that being treated like that really wasn't your fault. You were fine, they were the problem. They were lousy teachers and even worse persons. Hugs to everyone here ![]() ![]() ![]()

In my day, a person did not have to be special needs to be bullied by teachers. They were called nuns. These are women who devoted their lives to God treating children like senseless creatures. I was humiliated, called names and smacked for 8 years in the name of discipline. Nobody said anything. We didn't know any better. That is just the way things were and we accepted it.

Ben, there are very few nuns around anymore so almost all the teachers at catholic school are lay people. The school is just run by the catholic church. Plus, when I was young education was not regulated the way it is now. The teachers did not need to have teaching degrees to teach in grade school. They were "supervised" by someone who had the degree. Most of the nuns I had were still in the process of becoming nuns. Many of them quit the convent in the 1960's when the church underwent major changes.
I have to say though that my education was not good. I never had a geography class. The only history I had involved the catholic missionaries that came to America in the early days. Music, art and gym were nonexistent. I spent most of my day in third and fourth grade copying my reader so I had nice penmanship. It's a wonder I finished high school let alone graduated with my masters. Maybe God was on my side. |

PurpleMist, your story reminds me of something that happened to my brother when he was in first grade. He was a brilliant person. He knew how to read before he started school. So when the teacher was teaching the other kids how to read he got bored so he would "act up". The teacher's solution??? To send him to the school library - TO COUNT THE BOOKS!!!!! Yeah, you read that right! Sent hi to the library to COUNT books, not READ them!!!
The video you linked to is soooo disturbing. What's really disturbing is that the adults involved are still in the classroom. I admire folks who teach "special needs" and "exceptional" students. It can be challenging. But if they reach a point that it's gotten to be too much do something else! There are tons of good teachers out there. But boy howdy the damage one bad one can do! |

can i share a story about this?
i know a guy, or i knew a guy anyway... his name was andrew- he's 16, and every thursday he used to have this support worker who met with him for lunch time and what this support worker apparently did, was sit him in front of the computer, and make him watch in the night garden- and bob the builder. in fact.. it got to the stage where the support worker used to buy the kid the cuddly toys of the shows things like that... yeah, it's so un called for- blind kids of 16 should not be made to watch bob the builder.. i mean come on. |

i suppose their's that, but if it's age appropriate, and with audio description, why not? what i'm getting at is that at his age, 16, he should be watching more appropriate material |

Before we moved out of the big city.... to a very kind and loving country community. Talk about honk-i-tonk land.... no gang activity here... My daughter was noted as mentally challenged by her teacher on 5th grade at the city... her BBF at age 10 tried to commit S.. and scarred herself forever on her tigh with a "HELP" sign... Wrong environment & teachers... reverse discrimination on little children... HORRIBLE!!!!! And totally unexcusable!!! Now my daugher is in Governors Honours, Beta Club & At Honour Society.... her BBF just spent 3 weeks paid in Italy on a summer program... and she is doing fantastic!!!!!! We need to take care of our kids!!!! It took 4 years to get both these little ladies back to normal!!!! Hugs you are not alone!!!!
