This does not fit anywhere else.
It has to do with what is considered age appropriate. I am 41 years old and my prefered manner of dress is Graphic tee shirts.and jeans. I also have a love of Converse brand sneakers. The original style with the white toe cap. I work from home and so I technically don't have to dress up. So are my preferences weird considering my age? |

Yellowfrog, count me in as prefering jeans and t-shirts.
I heard the results of a study today reporting what age women should stop wearing different things like bikinis, stilleto heels, short shorts, miniskirts and the like. 19% of the respondents to the survey said women of any age ought to wear what they like as long as they have the body to carry it off. Count me in that 19%. |

I don't see anything wrong with your manner of dress..I say whatever you feel comfortable in, wear it..! I prefer jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, tennis shoes, etc..I dress for me, not necessarily for everyone else, anymore...

Unless one has a dress code, like I who work in a corporate environment, dress as you please! I have gotten comfortable in collard shirts since wearing them for 20 years now. I also believe the 20 years military uniform also influenced that. Yes....weird

I don't see why informal dress has to be age restricted - wear what's comfortable to you, there's nothing worse then when people fiddle with their clothes and aren't themselves wearing them.

I think it's weird when people run around trying to determine what is appropriate for other people to wear. I have friends who do this (how they can stand being seen in public with me is a mystery) and I just don't get it. People should wear what they want to wear.

Unless that is, you are hoping to start wearing suits and ties?! I have a pair of converse, myself. Not, 'that' much younger than yourself! |

Dress yourself for comfort and don't worry about what others think! We, as a society, need to stop judging each other! Not sure how that will ever catch on, though.

I'm 59 and I still wear jeans and tshirts. I like to be comfortable, never paid much attention to fashion.

This brings up something that's bugged me for ages. I work for an agency that requires "business casual" dress. I have a co-worker who dresses every day like she's going to church - very fancy. Me? I dress well within the agency dress code, but I tend toward slacks and button down shirts, not frilly "girly" kind of stuff though I do occassionally wear a skirt or dress. I look nice. I'm professionally dressed, but the co-worker looks down her nose at me because I don't dress feminine enough. What business is it of hers?
![]() Co-worker would probably have a stroke if she saw the was I dress when I'm working around the farm doing nasty, hot dirty stuff - work boots, denim shorts and either a sports bra or ragged out t-shirt. ![]() |

I suppose if there are enough of us we can't be weird
![]() I like wearing button down shirts and casual slacks sometimes but even that is casual... I'm usually in a tshirt and shorts or cargo/carpenter jeans. |

I think around age 40, we get over the need to dress to impress others and wear what is comfortable.

The only thing I find weird is why so many people would wear such uncomfortable, unprotective rubber and linen slip like over priced converse. Here I thought it was for sceners!

Thanks all for your comments and words of support.
I've always been considered odd for my sense of fashion. As a teen and then as a young adult it did get to me a bit. While other females where busy primping and preening and concerning themselves with the latest fashion, I was having a hard time to put together one outfit that didn't make me look like a dork. As a got older I basically came to the conclusion that I would never be one of those people who seem to have excellent fashion sense and so I just decided to wear what I like even if it wasn't fashionable at the time. My question came about because it seems as though I've had the bad fortune (as of late) of meeting up with individuals who, upon seeing my manner of dress automatically assume that I'm trying to recapture my youth. It seems to me that women face this more than men do. Don't know why but as a woman ages she is expected to gravitate toward more mature and matronly forms of dress. Lizardlady---Totally the same. I've never been a fru fru sort of girl and as a teen and young adult I took some teasing for it. Still do sometimes. That combined with a short pixie haircut and minimal use of makeup, well, you can guess some of the comments I've endured. I've always been a bit 'off' in many ways and most days I can endure the odd looks or wayward comments but lately it seems as though there has been a slew of them and I resent it. |

I'm a 25 year old woman who wears only black graphic t-shirts, shorts that look like guys shorts, or jeans, and wear DC skate shoes. I plan on wearing this attire for the rest of my life, so I will be your age one day with this same question.

Weirdness is in the eye of the beholder. No matter what you wear, or don't wear, for that matter, there will always be sonmeone/s who thinks it is weird. So, don't wasted your time worrying about what others think. Wear what makes you feel good, if someone defines you by what you wear, they really aren't someone that would be worth worrying about.. What is important is who you are on the inside. That's my opinion....hope it helps. Rock on in those genes and T'x.

My good friend is 73 and her nephew bought her a pair of red converse shoes. She loves them and wears them all the time.
