Grrrr!! I signed up with Vonage (the high speed internet phone service) a few days ago. They told me that my area code was available and that I would be able to send and receive calls on my home phone at no long distance charge. WRONG! No one can call me in my area.. and I mean NO ONE. They set my new phone number as a number coming from a city nearly 400 miles away!! So anyone that tries to call me would have to call long distance. My neighbor can't even call my house without dialing long distance! I'm so mad! Then, (after thy already lied to me about the long distance thing) they tried to make ME pay to have the line disconnected.. $40! Mercy me... I swear I coulda spit fire at that point!

So, now I am switching BACK to my old phone service... and that's gonna cost even more money. Stupid Vonage

At least I can say.. LESSON LEARNED! Stupid Vonage

MP, that happened to me. Call them and pick a number in your area. It's easy to transfer the number. They'd done the same thing to me. They assumed that because it was in the same area code, it wasn't long distance...wrong!

GL.

I also subscribed to Vonage when I moved a couple of months ago. I also had to choose an area code other than my own. The phone worked for one day....ONE DAY... and then it wouldn't work no matter how many times I tried to reprogram it. I spent hours on the phone with Vonage and my cable service, and both blamed each other. I sent the Vonage thing back and cancelled the service.
Like Davey or someone else here said, if it sounds too good to be true...

I've not had one issue with them. There was something I had to check with my cable company to make sure it would work. I did. I received the stuff and started using it immediately.

The only issue I had was the number (I changed my number instead of keeping the old one), and that was resolved with one phone call and initiated immediately.

They've been true to their word billing-wise as well. No hidden fees, no extras...one payment each month from my checking account.

Phone service, all the extras (including checking messages online), totally free long distance for $25. I thought it was too good as well, and made sure I had the 30 days like they said.

It's been fine for me and it's been three months now.

I'm sorry several of you have had bad experiences. Stupid Vonage

Yeah, I did call them, KD. They said that they figured since the number they gave me had the same area code as mine that it wouldn't be long distance. When it came right down to it, they actually didn't have a phone number available for me in my area. It was just such a hassle. I'm glad you are having good results with them, though. I have to give them this much though... they were very patient with me while I was extremely angry. Stupid Vonage lol

I sent the router back today.. and they agreed to not charge me a fee for disconnecting the line. And, they are giving the money back that was spent for the activation. So, I'm pleased with that. It just sucks that I had to pay $170 to get my old phone service back.. UGH.

I didn't know AOL had a free e-mail. Sounds frustrating, though. I also have little patience with things like that! Stupid Vonage
