Ever since I was little (around Kindergarten), I always had an obsession over some king of object, like a doll. Whenever I would lose that object, I would be in a panic and will look for it for a week or two. I would break down and cry a lot when I could never find it. It would take me 3-5 weeks to get over this kind of deal unless I find what I've lost.

I'm 16 now, but I still feel like this. Recently, I've lost my MP3 player six days ago because I stupidly left it on the counter after my dad, brother and I went jogging. I can't remember anything after that because my memory is terrible, so I searched the whole house 6 times!! I still can't find it, I just break down inside. Yes, I love music very much, so as alternatives I listen to music on the computer and my tablet.

I wish I could calm down and persuade myself to think rationally and look for the possible places that I might have put it, but I can't! I even suspect that my mom has hidden it and I feel like crap. Throughout the years, I've been obsessive over little things that were important to me and things that were of no use to me! Could there be anything wrong with me??

Maybe knowing where your stuff is gives you a sense of things being safe and orderly. It sounds like this is related to some kind of anxiety problem. I've read that obsessiveness is related to anxiety . . . an attempt to control it.

Often, lost objects will turn up when you are doing a thorough job of cleaning. I find that works better than trying to hunt for something.

That's too bad that you think your mother might have hidden your MP3 player. Why do you think she might have done that? Sounds like your relationship is not too good. Maybe you could talk with her. Have you ever told her that losing things makes you feel very disturbed?

I hope you find it soon.
Thanks for this!

That's unfortunate you lost your mp3 player and I know it's awful to lose things, but I don't think you have a condition personally. I only have a BA psychology so I'm no expert.

I'm curious why, at 16, you mention your memory is bad? Ever had one of those memory, IQ tests, in school? Might be something to address with your pediatrician, next wellness check up.
Sorry, to read, you suspect your mom, may have hidden it. Any correlation to your panic stricken moments?

Hope you find the answers you are looking for. Unfortunately, PC isn't the place for a diagnosis, just people helping people, or patients/clients helping each other(depending on how you view it)

No one here can diagnose you and it sounds like something you might want to bring up with your doctor when you see them next.

Thanks for the link! I'll be sure to check it out soon and let you know what I thought! I do become possessive over ordinary objects, but my relationships with others aren't terrible. I just go loca XP

I relate to your predicament, but in my case, my mother would throw my things away while I was in school. I didn't dare complain or I would get slapped something awful. Good luck to you
