I am so tired and sleepy for some reason. I got enough sleep last night. But I am forcing myself to even get anything done at all. I am trying to blame it on my meds, but they don't usually make me so tired. And I have SO much that needs to be done. What do you do to give yourself motivation to get things done? Anyone?

This time of year is stressful and stress will make you tired. Could that be it? Running full speed over the holiday and now your crashing from everything?

I would just try and take things slow. Do a couple of things that need to be done, then rest for a bit. If you want to catch a short sleep, set the alarm for like a 90 min. rest. 90 mins is a good amount of time, because it lets you get all the sleep stages and a better rest.

I guess it can be like a reward thing. Get this done then I can rest for a bit. That might be a good motivation. Just don't get yourself into a situation where you can't sleep tonight.

Good Luck,
Lisa

Hi Mental,

I am in the same boat as you. In fact, it's after twelve noon and I am still in my pj's. I think alot of it, for me anyways, is the holiday season is so stressful right up until Christmas day and then after that, it's like a big "Whew", I'm glad that's over. Also, I have problems with depression and depression can take all of your energy.
I hope things will get better for you.
Take care,
Linda

I am soooo empathetic to this.

If you are light sensitive, you may have seasonal affective disorder (SAD). That was challenging to deal with when I lived north.

Here are some things I do to cope: I try to give myself a small thing to accomplish and lots of praise and downtime when I do it. I had a huge list of things to accomplish over winter break from teaching, and I've only accomplished a quarter of them. I'm really pleased with what I have accomplished, because definitely there have been times when my fatigue was worse. NOTHING got done. And my mess kept growing.

I used to sleep in clothing (like little knit shorts sets or sweat clothing), so that the neighbors wouldn't know I was still in my PJs in the afternoon. Wink.

I've noticed that it makes me feel worse to stay in PJs, so now I have some designated comfortable house clothing to change into as soon as I finish morning tea and prayers. Still very comfy, but a change that tells me "I'm trying."

Can you give yourself permission to feel tired and then lavish praise on yourself for taking good care of you as you rest up?

((((((( Jen )))))

Maybe it's just the idea of things that you have to do that is making you tired...

Before you go to sleep each night, set aside a small task that you can do the next day... maybe just going out and buy milk, and start to fantazise about all the interesting things that can happen while you do it... maybe you'll run into someone you really want so etc... and then you'll see when you are doing one thing, it's easier to do another... it's just that damn getting up and go thing that can be so overpowering sometimes!!!

Best of luck to you... and a happy new year...

Thanks, (((( everyone )))).
I'm going to try these "baby steps" in order to get some things done. I'm going to start first thing in the morning. Just little things at a time. And then reward myself when I get one task done. Something just has to work. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will work.

And, yes, I do think the holidays have me worn out! It may sound bad, but I'm glad it's over!

Thanks again, everyone.

Hi Again Jen --

I know this probably sounds unbelievable, but when I am at my most fatigued and overwhelmed, the little things I have to reward myself include brushing my teeth, flossing, and taking a shower. Honestly, there are times (just as this past week), when I don't take a shower for a couple of days (so long as I'm not sweaty and smelling bad).

Sometimes I have to reward myself for remembering to eat, or eating a balanced, nutritious meal.

I know these things must sound terribly teeny, but sometimes the little things I can manage are really very, very small things that most people take for granted.

Jen -- I don't know if this thread has helped you, but it has given me a kick start, smiling quietly to myself (SQTM). I haven't exactly been a whirlwind, but it is true that seeing the progress I'm making little by little is motivating me to make even more progress. Today, I picked up some piles of books that have been on the floor for months. Don't ask why. I think I may have enough energy to put my large, funny-shaped closet in order before I return to school on Tuesday.

How is it going for you, Jen?
