I physically abused a mentally and physically handicapped man 5 years ago, while working as a careworker.

I am trying to find information on therapy that will help me to explore why I did this, in order to prevent it occurring again. I have found resources on anger and stress, have been in communication with my employer from this event, and am currently seeking counselling. I would like to know if there are resources specifically for therapy for abusers, or case studies of abuse of physically or mentally handicapped people in institutional settings.

thank you

Your therapist should be able to help you with this, I hope you continue to seek a therapist, even consider a psychiatrist, before you go onto repeating this criminal behaviour.
Have you also considered changing professions? Maybe being a careworker right now is not for you and it may put more victims at risk.
I am sure if you stick with a therapist you be able to answer those questions you asked in time.

In giving advice seek to help, not please your friend

Welcome to the forum, I am glad that you are actively seeking help in this problem. It is obvious that you want to keep from hurting anyone again. Seeking a therapist would be your first step in this. A therapist will help you identify what it is in you that caused you to do what you did and then will help you co-ordinate your efforts by suggesting reading material and/or organizations in your area that can help you.
