my heart goes out to all those people who were involved in any way with the florida storms today.
living in the uk i have never seen or being involved in a twister of any kind, so i can only imagine the horror they must be going through.

The weather over and around Florida has really become so unstable. I don't think they received any warning. Thankfully, one of my friends there is OK.

Hi there, everyone. It's so nice of y'all to express your concern. I'm no longer very active here, but I live down in the Southeast part of the state like Skye, and I was as surprised as any of you when I turned on the news this morning and heard about it.

Even though it seems several twisters hit, creating a broader swath of devastation than just one, the damage is still fairly localized, compared with what a hurricane can do. The other thing to keep in mind is that mobile home communities were hit, and many of the older homes were built before hurricane codes were enacted in the early 1990s.

The sad thing is that it's probably much, much harder to lose a little home that represents everything one has ever worked for than walking away from one's demolished mansion after a storm. Someone like Oprah or Donald Trump can just build another big home -- but these people cannot. Plus, many of them are very elderly and cannot simply "start over."

The death toll keeps climbing, too. The last one I heard on CNN is 19.

I hope all PC Florida members have come through this okay.

I'm a little north of Tampa and on one of our local stations they said a total of nine tornadoes touched down. Of course not all were destructive but still... florida

florida Yes, I'm ok. florida The storms cut a swath across central Florida. The "tail" of the front with those storms is due through here Sat and possibly stall over us for Superbowl. (SURE HOPE NOT!)

My T is out of town (in the storms I think florida) so isn't available to help me through a bad storm if it comes... so ya'll keep thinking those good thoughts for me! I appreciate all of you who were concerned.
