Why is it that so many people in helping professions hate to help people?! I have so had enough of the systems! Do any of them out there have even the slightest clue that they are killing us by refusing to help?! I hope thats not what THEY call negative reinforcement! I call it negative NOTHING. Often times they dont even contact--no phone call or voice mail, no email, NOTHING! Let me at least hear *SOMETHING* so I know someone hears me! A victim of neglect and being ignored by the "systems" for too long. I am in a very serious place right now. But evidently, nobody gives a D*.

~ DocJohn: ~ Thank YOU so much for having these forums! I need such a major vent. I wish it was enough.

After so much time and neglect... you know the saying if it looks like a duck, acts like a duck, sounds like a duck, then it must be a duck?

Well, then, if they treat you like $h*t...

((((inky))) No, you aren't acting like that, so that makes a big difference... plus we here at PC know you are worth much more than a duck My life is over Sorry, my bad.

The ppl in the system are stuck too, imo. They may have joined for the right reasons but now are tied up with too many cases and not enough time or brains.
Some of the clerks of course just needed a job, any job... you understand that.

No, you have to self advocate in today's world. I would make a list (but then, I like and NEED lists) of when to call whom, and when you last did and what the result was. Make it routine that YOU have to check and be that squeaky wheel. Once it becomes a habit, without feeling it's personal, it won't upset you so much. (No, it shouldn't have to be that way.)

I still get personally upset at times when I forget that it's just the system, and nothing personal... I have to keep the wheels going for myself.

Now, anything in particular PC members can help you with???

(((hugs)))

Don't think of yourself in that way. You are fustrated because no one "hears" you.
I suffered for years (6) with being on edge and nervous, worry, and sometimes totally paniced. My Dr. finally took the time to listen and has taken a new approach through meds that is working.
Just contine to be persistant or ask for a referral to another Dr. but, do not give up, you are not alone.

Inky,
Your life isn't over, you just have challenges to overcome. I sure wish you luck and adiquit help with them.

I think the criminal neglect that goes on in the US mental health system comes from a lack of accountability. Privatization opens it up to numerous quacks and cuts to funding, which also is limited or cut due to the same lack of accountability for getting results and following patients to make sure 'results' are gotten. We are left to teach ourselves how to heal ourselves, and at the mercy of any snake oil and religion salesman that comes along to fleece us in our desperate times.

The recent story about the gross neglect of out patients at Walter Reed hospital is the tip of the iceberg in both the veterans care system, the general healthcare system and especially the general mental health system in this country.
A general shake up is needed to include the mass firings of those responsible for setting up and defending this shameful state of affairs, and by that I mean those in washington and the state capitals, and the heads of the petty fiefdoms at local public and private clinics, churches, web sites, etc. across the board.

Inky,

I had a special needs child in my home for almost three years. I made phone calls literally every day trying to find help for her -- all for naught. So I definitely know what you are talking about.

I've said many times to a friend that all of the people in social work, who don't want to do their jobs should go into banking, where the only thing they affect is people's money -- NOT THEIR LIVES.

Hello Inky.
I am very sorry that you are having a hard time at this time. Sometimes when things are not going right with your medicalt treatment then you ned to try to get someone else involved that will help you get the treatment you need such as a case manager. A good professional mental health agency wil have case managers to help people that have a problem getting htings done at the level they feel they need and deserve. If you talk to your therapist your therapist can help arrange for you to have a case amnager to help you along your way to getting the help you need. I hope things get better soon. Take care soidhonia
