Hi,

I'm not sure what this is, but I have had many moments recently where I lose sense of why I'm here or why am I doing whatever i'm doing. I've felt detached from and not belonging to my current environment for a long time in general. (also suffering from GAD and depression episodes)

This becomes very confusing especially if I watch a movie. I seem to get so immersed into it that when it's over, I'm very confused as to where I am and what I'm supposed to be doing for a quite a while. And in fact I fear I won't be able to get out of it, so I've begun to fear watching movies a bit.

Is this some sort of disassociation?

Thanks,
-stuck

It's possible but none of us here can make that diagnosis for you. If you have a therapist or a pdoc you should talk about how you feel with them and see what they think.

Lack of concentration, as in having trouble as you describe is a key question asked at all my pdoc appointments. I believe it's a depression symptom. As jelly-bean mentioned, it's better to speak with your pdoc, to address your concerns. May need a medication adjustment or work through to learn effective coping/grounding techniques with your talk therapist.

if you are here in NY (USA) no this is not disassociation...here

disassocaion (pronounced dis - association) is purposely preventing yourself from doing things, purposely stopping something you are doing...

example

Today I disassociated myself from christmas shopping (I stopped crhristmas shopping and went home)

Friday I disassociated myself from work (I purposely left work)

so what is what you posted? well it can be just about anything....anxiety, depression lack of sleep, medication problems, stress,....

short and sweet what you posted can be just about any mental physical or normal situation..

to find out what this is with in you, you will need to contact a treatment provider outside of your computer life. we are not able to diagnose (tell you what this problem is with in you.)

All we can do is tell you what this is with in ourselves. with in me this was called many different things depending upon other accompanying symptoms.

my suggestion contact your treatment providers or a mental health treatment provider outside of the computer if you really want to know what this is with in you.
