You might remember my post about getting a nasty anonymous email from a website that allows you to say only obnoxious, negative things without having to own them.

Well, a week after the first one, I got another one from that site. It was even more specific and hateful than the first one. I finally had the sense to block the address.

That was about a week ago. Today, I got one from "anonymousfeedback.net," another one of those sites -- AT WORK. cowards

I've put our IT guys on it, because I have had it with this crap. But it serves as a good lesson in the utility of talking directly to the person you have a problem with. I believe this stuff is coming from my officemate, which is about to send me over the edge - we're the only 2 in this office and it's making showing up for work a total bite. But I know he talks about me behind my back (I have written proof of that). If he would just say what he had to say to me TO ME, life would be a lot easier. I have trouble with confrontations, but one is brewing because he's such a weasel.

Anyway, beware of these sites! The other one was secretmessage.com. I never knew these things existed, much less that there was more than one of them.

It's too bad there isn't an ignore button IRL.

Oh heavens!!!! If it's your coworker, he can be fired. Life is just too short to go around doing mean things like that.

Well, the plot thickens.

Right before I left for lunch, my HR rep called. I got that nasty anonymous email at work yesterday, and forwarded it to our IT guys to see if there was any way they could track down the sender. The head of the department responded to me and CC'd the editor in chief and HR. I hadn't told either of those folks about this before -- I don't know if I'm glad somebody did it for me or not.

Anyway, I was told that they're going to look into this, and she wanted to know if I thought it was someone we work with. I said yes, I thought it was my officemate. cowards I feel all slimy and gross and disgusting and weaselly, because I should have had the guts to confront him before I took it to the company higher-ups. And I'm going to feel REALLY slimy and gross and disgusting if they fire him!!!

Shoulda just kept my mouth shut -- no trouble that way.....

(((((((((((candybear)))))))))))))

You have nothing to feel slimy, gross or disgusting about!! You did not do the slimy, gross or disgusting thing...HE and his friends did!! If he gets fired, he gets what he deserves. It is now officially out of your hands. You had every right to protect yourself and you did just that. What they are doing is harrassment, pure and simple and there are laws against harrassment. The laws also state that if the employer does nothing to stop the harrassment, they can be in big doo doo too.

I'm sorry you are going through all this. It's never easy or fun. Stand strong and true that you have done nothing wrong and hold your head up high.

Hugssssssss

Hi Candy

I know we havent spoken before...but if your office mate is doing something so disgusting, then he deserves to be fired. He will be responsible...not you. Good lord...I had no idea idiot sites like that existed.

Someone earlier said you had courage, and I agree. If it were me...I would have left my job that day...and crawled into a hole. Good for you for standing firm.

Thank you.

One of our IT guys said sites like that exist so that people who want to give anonymous tips to the police, or whistleblowers wanting to give the press a lead, or whatever, can do so. They aren't meant to be used to harass people. cowards

Believe me -- most days I want to crawl into a hole. I have no idea what keeps me putting one foot in front of the other.
