Hi everyone, I have been struggling to pay for my medications for a long time. If I take all of the meds that have been prescribed, it is well over $1000 each month. I am currently on disability and don't have drug coverage. I recently learned about the Patient Assitant Program. I am now recieving most of my meds for under $10 each month. I just wanted to encourage anyone out there that you don't have to pay that much for your prescriptions. If I can do it you can too! I hope this message helps someone out there!

Thank you for the warm welcome!! To answer your question.........It is a program that was set up by the US pharmaceutical companies to help people receive the medications they need if they do not have drug coverage or have exhausted their coverage. I actually contacted a non-profit group that helped me with all of the applications, etc. I paid an application fee and they did everything else. I saved soooo much money. Now I pay less than $5 a month for each of my prescriptions. It has really been a life-saver!!

Each drug company has it's own program for patient assistance. You can apply yourself without the help of a third party. Alot of time your docs' office will help you with the paperwork, at least getting it or finding out where to get it from. It is based on income level and some people qualify for free meds, that are usually sent directly to your docs' office for you to pick up (depending on what type of med it is.
I used to have a website for all of these that I would give to pts. I will have to look for it. J. |

Yes, needymeds.com is a great site. A couple of my friends have used that site b/c they only had one prescription to apply for. I had 7 to apply for.....I found the process to be VERY harry and I was actually turned down for my first two applications. When I finally got help with the applications, I received all of my meds and I didn't have to worry with all of the paper work. It just depends on the individual....some people do their own taxes and some of us pay someone to do it so we get the money we deserve or so that we don't pull our hair out. Either way, it's a personal preference. I am glad that there are doctors out there who will help with the applications - mine were not so helpful! Anyways, I just wanted to share my experience!

In some hospitals where there are clinics for folks who don't have insurance or low amount of insurance, they will very often offer prescription assistance(sometimes their own and those from the drug companies). They may also have support staff there to help you fill out the paperwork.
