My youngest brat (and I use that term with much love) who is only 24 has degenerative disk disease. She's suffered with it for about 5-6 years now. So young to have that problem... grrrrrrrr.

Tomorrow I am taking her to the hospital for bloodwork, another MRI and a procedure where they stick a needle into her disk area and move it around some to see where the pain is the absolute worst. *shiver* I am so aching for her right now and I know she is not wanting to do this at all.

The results of this test will tell her and the surgeon if the pain she is feeling is actually from the disk that is degenerated or radiating from other areas above or below the disk. From there she will decide if she wants to have the surgery that this doc is suggesting. Basically fusing the spine around the bad disk. This is not an easy decision to make especially for one so young.

My oldest daughter is having a difficult time with her elbow. This last round of shots she just had have done nothing to relieve the pain and her doctor told her that she may also have to have surgery. *sigh*

I feel like this family is physically falling apart before my eyes here. I am so concerned about them and know that they will depend on me for help through all of this. Of course being their mom I will always be there for them, but I'm now having a case of the guilts.

I'm feeling like my plans for the end of summer will go up in smoke. I know, it sounds very selfish. In some ways I feel very selfish, because their health means everything to me. But at the same time, I've worked so hard to get to a point of being able to make something good happen for me for a change, I'm just afraid it's all going to go down the drain....AGAIN Oh boy

I feel like such a schmuck Oh boy

Listen! You don't give up on your plans for you and your husband! Do as much as you can for your daughters but you defend the right to be with the love of your life above everything else!

There's no need to feel guilty! They sound like they are both adults and responsible for themselves. They're past the age where your responsibility to them comes first.

I'll elaborate more if you need me to, but for right now, I just want you to know that having your husband with you comes first, ok???? Oh boy

sabbie I had this procedure done 2 times so far. they can also do epidurel injections to see if that helps before they do surgery. pm if you want to and we can chat about spinal stuff! got lots of experience on that one. at least I would talk her into waiting til after summer. a couple of months is what it is going to take to get it all arranged probably.

(((sab))) Have your dd think twice about the elbow surgery. I did it a couple of years ago and regret it every single day. In the end, the pain is just as bad, just a different kind.

And don't feel guilty! Do what you need to do for YOU or you won't be able to do anything for them.

Love, Candy

Oh boy Oh boy Jean Oh boy Oh boy

We moms are always there for our kids from cradle to grave. It sure would be nice if we could refer to a manual that tells us when or if we should dare put ourselves first at some point!? If you ever figure that one out, please clue me in, will ya?!

Sab, my friend had that same procedure on her back. She said it was fine, just a lot of pressure.

Hope everything turns out ok!

And its ok to feel bad about your plans possibly getting jinxed. When we look forward to something, we have expectations. And when those expectations get foiled, our first reaction is anger towards the situation. It doesn't mean you're a selfish parent, not in the slightest..

Ouch. With all the new options regarding disk surgery, is having the disk replaced something you all are considering? Fusing is so old hat, imo.

Thank you (((((((((((((((((((Candy)))))))))))))))))))))) for the heads up on the elbow surgery! So what have you done to help it without surgery? It's so painful to her right now and she can barely straighten it and definitely can't lift anything. She's going into her externship soon probably in a surgury situation and she needs use of that hand and arm. *sigh*
She's done pysical therapy and had all kinds of stuff done, heat, ice etc etc and nothing seems to work.
