this thread is not for anyone to jump in and start ragging on people who go to MySpace...... no judgmental posts, please..........if you don't want to read it, don't....it's a warning mostly for parents of younger adolescents.

i've had a profile up for my photography and have actually done some work for people. photographed a longhorn herd, did some portraits, etc.

well, last night a friend was over and i was showing him the profiles that people post.

we found two that were unbelievably gross. one was so racist that it ook our breath and the other was so sexist and sadistic that we both were horrified and very alarmed.

i notified the administration concerning both of these profiles and received an e.mail that stated that both profiles were totally within the guidelines of the site.

the first one was "bleep you, N****" and was full of violent images and such. the second one was a man seeking women that he could cut for his sexual pleasure........and there were other things that he wanted to do, that i definitely won't even hint at.

i notified them that i would delete my profile as i wouldn't want to be seen as condoning such profiles.

parents.......keep an eye on those kids. i know that there are lots of youngsters who go on there and don't give the correct age. check out where your children surf and what's up at all times. i would die if someone's child saw one of those profiles. and can you imagine how many thousands there are just like that?

xoxoxo pat

You are absolutely right Pat....My Space, Face Book and I can't think of the others at the moment. Face Book has a bunch of college kids going crazy and doing things that no college kid should ever be trying, never mind posting it on the web. When I worked at UCONN, part of my job was going to Face Book and finding students that attended UCONN and we would find out what they did in their spare time. Also found a few who admitted to a lot of illegal stuff.

Amazing that people just plain don't give a dang anymore. Welcome to cyberworld....life as we knew it doesn't exist anymore "MySpace Warning" BIG BIG TRIGGER

Unbelievable Faye - or should I say believable because things just don't seem to surprise me anymore!

I know in my local area there were some pedophiles that had myspace pages and there was a big warning on the news about it.

I am surprised though that there is not more rules for people's profiles. But then of course they would yell the first ammendment rights!

I am a big myspace user. My family uses it as a way to stay in touch—great tool for us. I am 36 years old and even I don’t go looking at the profiles—I find too many of them truly alarming. It would be nice if they could come up with a marking system—like ratings for the movies to let people know if a profile is appropriate for that particular user.

Oh my gosh, that's disgusting! I can't believe my space allows such things. I guess I'm naive about the net though. I remember reading a lot of comments on this one article online, and was shocked at all the foul and racist language used. I was ashamed to be white-no wonder racism never ends.

My daughter puts her age at 85, but it's obvious by her posts that she's not. I know I've checked out some of the guys that respond to her blog thing, and they're in their forties(she's a teen). She just ignores them though. I use myspace for fun, but I think I'm going to start checking out the profiles, thanks for the heads up faverordy.

Tokidoki,

The reason your daughter put her age at 85 was so her profile is not marked as "private". If she puts in her real age the 40 year olds wont be able to see her profile or post to it unless she adds them as a friend.

I agree there is a lot of really bad stuff on myspace. Its not really appropriate for children at all.

Wait, does she put her age at 85 so older people CAN talk to her???

If she had her correct age down then the older people wouldn't be able to talk to her.

Since she has it as 85 it has her profile as public so older people can talk to her.

I don't know if it was her intention for older people to talk to her. She may have just copied off her friends (a lot of teens do the age thing). I would have her change it though, becuase you don't want those people to have access to her information.

Myspace changed the settings to have minors shown as private profiles after some high profile cases involving minors.

Not trying to upset you, just want to make sure you are informed.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much for this info. I had her change her age to her real age.

Yes, she said she put her age at 85 because that's what her friends do. Oh gees. Thank you again, trying to relax right now and not think about all the pervs on the internet.

Now I see why my mom said having girls was harder than having boys(I'm her only daughter!)
