My bf just picked me up from work and we stopped at a gas station...some dude in all black walked slowly to the side of the gas station (i could see all of this) and stood there and just looked around...then when some of the cars left ...he went to the locked gate and slipped through into the dark backyard area of the gas station....so i waited and looked but the guy didnt come out...i went inside...and when all of the customers left i told the cashier girl that some very suspious looking man slipped in through the gate...she looked surprised and thankful and said she would call the police...well i left and got back in the car and i told my bf and he flipped....he said the girl coulda been in on it and i coulda got shot....i told him well...i didnt get shot....and besides if everyone thought like you then everyone would get away with bad stuff and no one would get involved to stop it... i know he was caring and concerned about my safety....but...when do you blow the horn and when dont you for your own safety...i have boundary issues and sometimes they are very unclear ....its just my instincts told me i should tell her....and i know from experience that when i dont do what my instincts do i end up making my life hell....and probably would force my boyfriend to take me back....so did i do the right thing...or should i have kept my mouth shut...,maybe what i did was stupid..i dont know...

You did the right thing( In acorner ) once at 4am i heard a woman getting her ribs cracked by her drunken boyfriend. I went and helped. Luckily for me some neighbours called police. When they came they told me I shouldn't have got involved. I felt ok up until they said that then I started shaking all over. He would have killed her if I hadnt gone to her. She was very drunk too and that maybe helped her not to feel his practising his martial arts on her....I never had any repercussions....and my husband never went to help despite his being a very strong man...so I commend you for following your instincts..or may I call them fellow feeling. This world is worse off when people turn a blind eye....luv Jjulia

You absolutely did the right thing. You might have saved both a life and a store owner's livelihood. Good job. When do you keep your mouth shut?

Inny -

You did the right thing! I worked third shift in a gas station and had a really odd guy come in. There were other people in the store and so he kept bringing different things up to the register, dented cans of vegetables, milk, etc. Every time people left the store he started heading toward the register.

Thankfully one of my friends came in and I told him not to leave me. Then, the cop that was always on my beat came in to get a cup of coffee. As soon as he did the guy high tailed it to the register to check out. I rang his stuff up and it came to $20.00 (keep in mind this was on a Friday night at midnight in 1984). He opened his wallet and had no money - gee really?

I told him it was okay I'd put everything back and I kept making eyes at the cop. When the guy left the cop asked what was up and I told him, so he went to go after him.

My friend left and about 10 minutes later someone else came in and said there were 5 cop cars in the back of the store with some guy up against a van. The cop came in later and they had arrested him. He had a knife over 5 inches in his boot!

When we went to court he was let off because they said it was an illegal search (didn't have enough justification) and the guys attorney was arguing that he should get this knife back that was illegal for him to be carrying in the first place!

I'm sure that girl is very grateful to you for what you did. I think the bf over reacted and you weren't putting yourself in danger just by letting her know what was up.

Tranquility

I think you did absolutely the right thing. The other day here, there was a shooting at a convenient store. The guy ran into the apartment complex next door, and one of the guys that lived there went after him. The news interviewed this guy (a very hippy lookin dude lol) and he said he was an ex-marine and couldn't let the guy run away. The police said he shouldn't have done that, they said we should never run after someone with a gun. But then they said a few weeks ago there was a hit and run and someone in a car followed the guy and called the police, tailing the hit and run guy until the cops could get him. They said that kind of thing is safe, and then they said that communities do a lot better when we all work with each other and help the police when we see something go down. So I'd say you fall into the second category....safely helping a fellow member of the community. If everyone alerted people or called the cops when we saw something suspicious, I bet we'd be a much safer country.....I think you did great!

I think you did a wonderful thing. Also, remember that 911 is your friend. When do you keep your mouth shut?

Hugs,

Jan
