Happiness - been thinking about this word lately. I've never met anyone who didn't want to be happy. This board is filled with people who want to be happy. The Dalia Lama says it's our purpose in life.

If it's our desire and purpose in life - why is it so hard?

I think there are two fundamental flaws here. There is no "happily ever after" in life. Happiness is a temporary color, like all the others in this kaleidoscope of life. If it were constant, we'd become immune to the feeling - it would be just another day in life. Without pain/sadness, we wouldn't truly appreciate the joy of being happy.

The other flaw is the definition of happiness varies among individuals. What makes me happy, might not make you happy.

What makes you happy?

What do you think it would take to make you live happily ever after here on earth?

Thanks Happiness

That's a great question Kathy!

I would be very happy if more folks could muster up more compassion for their family, friends, neighbors and themselves! I believe that by showing compassion to others is showing the utmost respect to a human being. By being compassionate, we validate, we extend a helping hand, we show appreciation and we make life a little easier for everyone we touch with compassion. That would make me happy Happiness

To me ... happiness is a state of mind. It is something that is fundamentally linked with everything we do. We want a family, friends, sports, arts, pretty much ANYTHING, why? Happiness. The same thing goes for anything that you are motivated towards. And as for the things that you don't necessarily want in you're life, well you do things that will hopefully prevent this unhappiness that accompanies them.

What makes me happy are the relationship's i've built in my life. Unfortunately relationships with people are so emotionally based that a lot of the time, unhappiness has an annoying habbit of following along. Especially in the family category.

Why is this so hard? Because life is not an easy feet. If happiness is in fact our purpose to life, then why should it be easy? Its something we have to work for, and if we do reach this goal, even momentarily, it is an accomplishment in my eyes ...

I'm happy to have a job, food, and a roof over my head. All else is gravy.

It doesn't have to be hard...honest. Happiness

I agree—happiness is a frame of mind. Truly, I have much to be grateful for…being happy is how I interpret what is going on in my life. Of course, being happy means I am staying on my meds and taking care of myself.

I'm happy today.

Happiness is feeling good about who you are and what you have.

And that obviously can change on a daily basis! Happiness

It's true what they say about staying in the present. I find that if I am reviewing the past and worrying about the future, I am much less content in the here and now. I constantly remind myself to stay in the moment.

Take care,
Okie
