What do you think of a country with only people with mental disorders in it? How can it be achieved? How will it function? Is it a good idea? Throughout history neurotypical society has at best look down on non-neurotypicals and at worst imprisoned non-neurotypicals in asylums and killed non-neurotypicals. Perhaps non-neurotypicals do not fit into neurotypical society. But can non-neurotypicals even create a country or society to be safe from neurotypical society? I do not hate neurotypicals but there are many things I do not like about neurotypical society.

The United States of America is the greatest country on earth due to its diversity. Out of many we are one.
Separation is not only inherently unequal, but creates stigma. Thus the idea of putting everyone with mental illness into a certain geographical area will only increase stigma. When a person who does not have a mental illness knows a person who does have a mental illness, stigma is reduced. Furthermore, this idea doesn't account for stigma within the mentally ill community. Moreover, segregating people with mental illness is not only morally wrong, but, as I said, will increase stigma of people with mental illness. This thesis can be used with other demographics. There is still systemic racism in America, but I don't believe the way to reduce stigma of black people is to segregate everyone who is black into a certain geographical area. This will not end racism, but increase it. And, just like with people with mental illness, it would be inherently unequal, morally wrong, and counterproductive. You don't end stigma by segregation. Out of many we are one. |

I don't know where you live but EVERYONE IN MY COMMUNITY/town has a mental disorder. Some of them (often the narcissists), believe only "other" people have mental problems but there are so many needing attention, stealing from others and bullying in my country that it is amazing we are still functioning. Can it work? Sure, but it will bring down our reputation.

Interesting idea. I'd certainly like to try it. By definition everyone would have deficiencies and limitations so nobody would need to look down on anybody else. That's one difference to start with, I think. Some people would be more capable at some things than others but that wouldn't make anybody "better". Challenges I can think of would be about leadership and ways of dealing with conflict. That's similar to any society,I guess. But if nobody is perfect or "better" by definition. . .that might lead to some interesting new ways of managing things.

I don't think that mental illness is something you can just "diagnose" people with when you don't agree with them. It is an actual medical diagnosis.
So no such place exists because it would be wrong to not allow non-mentally ill people to live there, like segragation. I would like to live in a whole world where everyone is accepting of people's differences and no one judges others. Free of stgma. The only way to do that is to educate neuortypicals. Also just because someone has a mental illness does not mean they would necessarily NOT be judgmental of other mentally ill people. Everyone is different. |

So you believe in segregation?....only based on mental illness rather than color of skin?....it's still segregation.
Its much better to live together supporting one another through understanding on BOTH SIDES. People are given different strengths & abilities even with mental illnesses & to make a community work it takes everyone working together with a common goal, not separation because because of differences just because you can't tolerate the differences. You can personally choose not to have CLOSE relationships with those who differ but a community needs the differences to truly thrive
