Why can't I enjoy anything? Everything I do, I'm always so bored I try to play the guitar... I get bored. I listen to music.. get bored after a while. Try to watch a movie? Same thing. Reading? Same. And so on...

It seems like I just get bored of EVERYTHING after a short period of time. Sometimes there's something that grabs me so much that I become obsessed with it (in this period I'm obsessed with online reviews, for some reason) until I'm fed up with it and move one onto the next thing.

I just don't know what to do anymore.. it's ruining almost every aspect of my life, I'm desperate No one knows what to do with this.. even my therapist keeps saying "You just gotta find something you like!" But HOW do you do that? She's so useless..

I'm sorry for the vent

This could be anhedonia- the inability to feel pleasure or the things once gave you joy no longer do. This is one of the symptoms of major depression. What I notice is though that everything you list can be pretty boring, I mean they are all inside fairly lazyish activities. You aren't moving and most people turn to these activities out of boredom, hardly anyone has fun playing guitar alone it is practice and practice is usually boring. Try doing something outside in nature, take a walk, go for a bike ride, or sit in a park. If you are able go somewhere social or even a cafe to drink a coffee and people watch. Find a sport or game you enjoy, bowling, billiards, cards, tennis, etc really anything other than sitting in the house being bored because that is what it sounds like to me.
Thanks for this!

I see what you mean.. to be honest, though, I've already tried some of the other activities you listed, and I found them even MORE boring such as walking around for a park, and such.. I've also tried a couple of sports (swimming, basketball, and even just regula gym) and I didn't like neither of these..

Do you suffer from depression? ADHD? So your post has me thinking about too high of expectations, short attention span, and taking things for granted. I think if people base their lives on what they see in movies and on tv, then everything is boring because life can never be as interesting as popular entertainment. If you have a short attention span then you shouldn't spend too much time on any one activity, give yourself time limit and maybe even set a timer or alarm to remind you when to quit that activity. I used to be bored all the time too and still get bored from time to time. Then I think about how precious life and time is and I find something that will help me appreciate that.

I lack concentration, getting bored easily, and thus also move from one thing to another. Sometimes I don't bother even trying. I thus spend a lot of time just sitting and doing nothing. This particularly bothers me as I am (or was) somewhat of an artist. I lack any inspiration or creativity and now don't even bother getting out my supplies at all.

Medication. I'm not sure which of my medications is responsible; but, I blame them for deadening my interest in things and killing any motivation or inspiration for creativity.

I suppose I have a short attention span - I get distracted pretty easily at school too, or when I have to study.

I don't know if I have depression or ADHD because I've never been diagnosed

Thank you for your help, though

@justafriend: I'm sorry you feel this way

Agree that the need for ADHD medication is a possibility. Also suggest that you just "force yourself" for a while. Example: when I get totally out of shape, I do not enjoy working out when I resume my fitness routine. However, if I force myself for a while, once I become more fit again, my workouts start becoming more enjoyable. It's like you have to train your muscles or something. This includes the brain; mind over matter I always say to myself. I also find coffee to be a great motivator when it comes to matters like studying or work.
Thanks for this!

maybe you should make some friends then you could go on the razz and get hammered , your life is dull, do something off the wall not moan about every day . Maybe you are no good at making friends, or you would not be posting this, We are depressives and would love to be in your position . i take enough meds to kill a rhino but i don't get bored , there are lots of things i cannot do due to being nuked in the head. i used to drink i liked that social drinking with friends is cool . falling over drunk is not .i dont get this post at all you have no illness just pissed off , i will swap places

Thank you, Hoping I already do "force myself" to do things that are school-related.. or at least I try. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but I keep trying

The problem comes when I have to do something that it's fun or enjoyable for me - I have no idea what to do

And no, I don't have friends - it's kinda hard to make friends when you have nothing to talk about to begin with. Even here on PC, I don't have a lot of topics to talk about with my friends

Hi, Mickey.
What about a course of somesort. Does philosophy, psychology, crimminology interest you?...painting, martial arts, guitar, a team sport perhaps?
You live in Europe, i am imagining there is so much to explore although i can see that, that can easily be taken for granted in the city in which you live.
The world is a pretty big place and since you have mentioned your thing right now is searching on here, search elsewhere on line , there are thousands of ideas, groups ect....
SOMETHING will capture your interest and once youve achieved that, that will help you get out there to talk about it.....
Give it a chance.

Thank you, candle Right now, the only thing that strikes my interest is art.. I don't know which kind of art specifically (music, painting, writing?). I'm not sure if this thing will change in a few weeks like it usually does

Perhaps you need more a group setting? I can't get motivated to go to the gym unless I have someone else to go with (just as an example)

I wouldn't do any artwork or anything with any joy unless it was with other people...not that it makes me particularly happy to be around others, it just gives me a little extra push to participate when I'm in a group setting...
Thanks for this!

Is there a class you could go to in the evenings or weekends?

You would meet new friends, maybe?
Thanks for this!

Class? Not sure..I don't think there are many here where I live.

What class could I take, though? Like I said, I don't have many hobbies.. and even without that, I don't think I'd be very good at social interactions

What about making up a schedule of activities. It is the spontenaity that is so difficult for those of us uninspired. I think I might try this myself.

Art on Friday, read on Monday, movie Tuesdays, etc. Perhaps planning activities in advance might help this problem.
Thanks for this!

My guess would be make yourself busy
Don't have so much free time in your life that you have to decide what you have to do to chill out
This way you will be more inclined to do what intrests you more rather than finding it out
Just a suggestion as I am no psychologist or someone who knows much about the subject
Its just something that i would do
Thanks for this!
