And how long is your average stay? I just counted mine today and I've had 26 since I was 16!

14 total for me since the age of 16, my stays have varied from just a week long to over 3 months long. Overall though, I benefit from shorter stays. I recently got out of the hospital after being there for only a week. Just needed a safe place to be while adjusting to a new medication.

I stayed 5 days. Never again. It WILL NOT happen twice. I don't want to kill myself but if I did--I would not tell anyone (other than anonymously here). Willing to go to a psychiatrist, therapy, self medicate, run away, etc.--no hospitals unless an ambulance hauls me away in an unconscious or incapacited state.......

I have been hospitalized 3 times for about ten days average stay.

I would be willing to go back if necessary.

I know I've been hospitalized more than 10 times, but I've lost track. Usually about a week and a half. Depends upon which hospital I go to and how badly off I am.

First time - 8 weeks.
second time - 4 weeks.
third time - 4 weeks.

That's not counting residential rehab which I've also done twice.

My shortest stay was one night. The longest was 8 weeks (of hell). Most stays were about three weeks. I've been in about 20 times. My last admission was over a decade ago. Hopefully I won't ever have to go back, because I found the place traumatizing.

I don't use psychiatric emergency services at all. I told my psychiatrist if I ever needed hospitalization that it must only be for psychosis and that she must admit me. I don't trust anyone else to admit me to hospital.

The last time I had a major depression I got suicidal and didn't tell anyone except my mother. She really helped me through those brutal three weeks. I refused to tell my psychiatrist, because I didn't want her to admit me. A stay in the psych unit would have made my situation worse. I also didn't want my misery to be documented.

I think I've had 8 but could be wrong. Shortest was for three days, longest 6 weeks. I don't think I would agree to go again, last time just made everything worse.

I've been IP only once thus far, and it was for a week. I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I needed it. They saved my life.

At 3, now. Longest has only ever been a bit over two weeks. Just got out of my last one that was 6 days and someone's already talking about going into another IP. Hell if I'll let it happen, though.

Around 30 stays, lost count... usually around 5 days. Got to the point where I cannot stand being "locked up", it is almost worse that why I am there in the first place.

I have been hospitalized multiple times in hte past, a lot of which I don't remember because it is all a blur.

I was okay for about 7 years then went off the deep end with delusions last year and went in the hospital last December through January this year. I spent last Christmas there. It wasn't so bad because my best friend and love of my life came and spent the day with me in there.

It makes me wonder though, could I really go back to work full time without an incident? I just got a part-time job recently because I feel it is all I can handle at the moment. Small steps is the way to go. I am Bipolar I by the way.

At least 13 or 14 since 2011. I almost ended up going to the state hospital because my hospitalizations were almost back to back in 2012. Since 2012 I have only been hospitalized for psych twice.

I was hospitalized 2 or 3 times as a teenager, for several months each time. I then went 15 years or so before my next cluster of hospitalizations. I had 4 more times: one couple of weeks, two 30 days, and one 6-week period.

I don't really regret my time spent in the hospitals, although a couple of times as a teenager, I was in an absolute hellhole. No exaggeration there, either! It was still better than where I would have been otherwise. So, I suppose that the right decision was made in each case for me.
