I filed for mine a few months ago. Yesterday I had a call from SS office saying they were ready to make a decision but needed to ask me a few questions. I have only heard of this one other time and the person was approved. Anyone else have this happen? before when I filed I just got a letter of denial in the mail.

Never heard of it happening, so it may be a good sign. The SS administration only contacted me by mail, too, and my case had to go to hearing before it was approved.

I guess it would depend on what type of questions they were asking. For instance trying to pin down a starting date of disability would be a good sign as well as asking you what bank to deposit the checks in..haha....clarification on dates of operations, or tests, or medications tried would also be a good sign....i hope you get a positive answer real soon.

Just wanted to say 'good luck!' Getting a call is not a *bad* sign; I've never heard any statistics so we can only speculate as to its actual relationship if any to approval of SSD.
I got my SSD very quickly, but I had a whole bunch of serious problems & was a true exception. A friend of mine recently got approved for her SSD after the (usual) pretty long process, and I think she did have one or two phone calls from them while they were working through her stuff. |

I'm trying to get on SSD, first time I got a denial in the mail, then they called me up and had to talk to a psychologist asking me questions. I had a response back for the questioning, and I was denied again because in the letter in quote "You are not blind and you can perform simple tasks" . I signed up for SSD because I'm Bipolar, I have PTSD, GAD, and Speech and language disability...I have no clue at all what the government terms of "simple tasks" because thats an opinion...not a fact. For me, I wouldnt be able to hold down the job because I have big anger issues, and I don't have a lot of patience and when I get angy I swear and destructive...I'm not blind but there are a lot of tasks that I cant do...like making food from the oven...I dont know how to use one of those... I always microwave food and if I cant I'll just skip a meal and keep going on hungry..right now my main goal is to keep hold of my sanity..SSD dont know what goes on in my head each day, Im guessing they dont know what its like to get so angry and upset over very small things..I'm still not tryin to give up just yet because I'm going to go to court and try to get SSD approved...

Bebop,
Have you talked to their lame psychologist's or pdoc's yet. I don't remember what I went through....so many years ago. My husband just went through it however. The first time he applied several years ago, he was immediately denied.....nothing....just a letter saying "tough luck" (well not exactly). He said great, I'm not disabled....I didn't feel disabled anyway. Several years later, we finally pushed him into filing again.....both my pdoc & psychologist know him & he went through the research group for adult ADD with my pdoc & was Dx'ed with adult ADD. Both my pdoc & psychologist filled out the forms for his disability this time (they did the last time too, but not enough information at the time). He filled out his part, & I just didn't get around to my part (oh well). He got a phone call telling him he had to go see one of their psychologists & answer some real stupid questions. Awhile after that, he got a phone call to come in & determine something about SSI which he doesn't qualify for.....way too much money for that (but not enough to live on). That was when they told him he qualified for the SSDI.....same thing I started receiving years ago. It sounds like you are on the approval track......but one can never tell with these guys until you actually talk to them....but usually if they are going to deny, they do it right away without talking to you, so my guess is that you are going to be approved. Good luck, Debbie

Sorry, I shouldn't have assumed psychologist......I should have just said: Have they sent you to one of their their lame Dr's. It seems like the Dr's they send people to don't even look at what the actual problem is.
That is usually what they do before actually granting the disability however is to have one of their Dr's (of any appropritate type but are not knowledgable about the problem) talk to you before their final decision. Hopefully they are better on the medical end of disability than they are on the psychological side of it. Turned out that the visit with their Dr wasn't the determining factor as much as the records & reports they receive from you own Dr's about your disability....which is a good thing considering the quality of their own. (hopefully they won't check your ears to see how your back is.....lol) I hope everything goes well for you....usually if you have gone this far in the system, it is only a matter of going through through the hoops before being accepted. Debbie
