Has anyone managed successfully to apply for disability while still working? I'm told it can be done, but I'm not sure I believe it.
I bring this up because my review is tomorrow, and based on the sort-of informal one I got when applying for another position internally awhile back, I am pretty sure I'm going to get flattened and destroyed. ![]() My job requires me to produce, whether I like it or not, whether I feel like it or not. But if you've ever been manicky and can't sit still, or depressed and incapable of doing anything more than staring at the wall, or were violently sick to your stomach all night but knew nobody would stand for another sick day, you understand that many days I show up here entirely to warm the chair. They seem to be prefer that I be here than not, but if I can't function while I'm here, I'm not sure what the point is. Anyway, just wondering if I have a chance. ![]() |

according to ss it says you have to be out a minimum of 5 months to qualify. I am sure there are rules to this that might come into play. ie..time off work due to illness that you are applying for. also it has to be expected to last more than a year. maybe call ss and ask them if it is at all possible. how many days a week you have to take off or a month and how it affects your work performance might come into play on that.

It won't work here in WI Candy. I tried, and was told because I was still working, I wouldn't get it even though I have papers from my back surgeon saying that I am disabled.
And I can't afford to take off from work because no one else brings in the amount of money needed to just get by with. It stinks. Btw, I also did try with an attorney once and he told me the same thing - when I quit working, call him. Good luck. {{{{{{{Candy}}}}}}}} Mary Alice If you hear of another way, please let me know. My back would be appreciative. |

social security won't talk to you if you are still working. and if you are not working, it is still very hard to qualify unless you are terminal, or have a whole lot of diagnosis that fit their criteria. i am a housebound agoraphobic who can't afford to go to a pdoc to get "formally" diagnosed. i am fighting with them now because even though i can't leave my house the dr they had talk to me for a grand total of 10 minutes decided i was just a little depressed. you definitly want lots of documentation from your own drs to try to avoid seeing theirs.

I have well over a decade of documented psych issues, plus now diabetes (one dx I'm told they usually go for immediately) and other health stuff. But, we'll see. Can't hurt to at least call a lawyer, right?
