I've been having trouble motivating myself to do any type of "work" while at home.

I've been busy throughout the week and I am often gone from 6AM to around 7-8 PM on most weekdays. Because of this, when I am at home, I can't motivate myself to do anything other than game or stream anime or TV no matter how hard I try.

Even simple things like cooking a meal, shaving, or taking out the trash is hard for me. Speaking of trash, it was so bad that last week, half of my kitchen was piled full of trash because when my trash can got full, I had a bunch of Braums bags from shopping there that were thrown on the floor that I fill with trash instead. It took a fly and roach infestation to motivate me to do something about it and even then, it took me like 30 minutes to psyche myself into getting up and doing something.

I struggle to motivate myself to cook because I find it freaking boring. I would rather eat microwavable stuff or make a sandwich than cook a meal. I was trying to improve my cooking skills and motivation by buying a couple of boxes of Tuna Helper to cook, but I can't motivate myself to do anything with them.

Don't even get me started on my hygiene. I hate shaving because I have extremely coarse hair and sensitive skin which makes shaving a nightmare for me. I don't brush my teeth until they start hurting because I always forget to or lack the motivation to do so.

When I'm gone, I am the polar opposite; hard working, intelligent, and motivated. But as soon as I get home, it's like I stop giving a damn.

I wish I knew how to change but being an adult is too damn overwhelming.

I'm going to try to force myself to get into a more structured schedule this week. I need to stop staying up all night and having binge anime crunchyroll sessions and 14 hour gamathons during the weekend lol.

Maybe if I wake up earlier and force myself to be a bit more disciplined, perhaps I will get more things done? I honestly don't know anymore.

I'll make an effort to wake up first thing in the morning and get as much done as possible tomorrow.

I can absolutely relate to finding it difficult to get stuff done around the house. What I do is alternate between doing a chore (like a load of dishes), then watching a youtube video or playing a day in The Sims 4 (or another game), and continuing that cycle with a chore of some sort followed by entertainment of some sort.

I should try this.

Well this and save up some money and get my face waxed or laser hair removal because I freaking hate beards since I have psiricis (I can't spell this word still and I'm too lazy to look it up haha) which causes my beard to irritate my skin.

If I don't have to spend 30 minutes freaking shaving that would be one less problem I have to deal with.

I am also possibly going to start cooking meals in a slow cooker while I'm gone so that I don't have to mess with cooking while still getting a healthy meal alternative to all of this crap I've been eating.

That's a long day I would want to sit down too. It's hard to break into new habits. I think the slow cooker is a good idea. I give you credit just making it through the long day. Do you eat during the day?

When I'm at home, my diet typically consists of frozen burritos, ramen, sandwiches, and microwavable pasta. When I'm gone, I'm more limited.

I suffer from lack of motivation myself. I brush my teeth in the shower so I can kill two birds with one stone. I've found that working smarter and combining tasks does help me. The crockpot is definitely a great idea.

If you don't mind some advice on the shaving. My husband has very coarse hair and shaving makes him break out horribly. When he started using beard oil it totally helped him. He applies it and lets it soak in for about 5 minutes. Then he can shave in about half the time it used to take him and it doesn't irritate his skin. I hope you can find some relief like he did.

I think it's normal. It's because you've been working hard on the day, so at home you want entertainment or rest. I like that too after I'm home from work. Very tired and wish to do nothing but watching cartoon or surfing on my bed.

I still able to force myself doing some task, if I'm not too tired. I think it is because of habit too. I see that you just enter college (1 month, right?), so it's normal to feel that way. You have not adjusted yet to your new lifestyle. Give yourself some time to adapt.

I can totally relate to what you say - and it's not only at home for me, too. So I understand it's great that you're trying some new strategies to cope with this, though. Hope it will work out - let us know how it goes.

These are all really good ideas. I work from home and I have OCD and Bipolar so - either my house is pristine or it is a dump. And I have a child so.. it's hard to get through the dump part without feeling horrible.

For me I had to craft a routine, at least weekly, and do it, no matter what. I still get down and can't/don't do anything for a while, but I try to do at least one thing every day, which I think was something someone else mentioned above.

I do most of my housework on my days off, making lists and watching Netflix or whatever while I'm cleaning/baking.

Another thing I wanted to suggest is listening to podcasts while doing your housework - so that you are interested in something that's going on at that moment. It's helped me a lot.

All the food you eat at home is as fast and easy as it gets. I agree with the others this is a new routine and will take some time to adjust to not having as much free time. Like I said you do a great amount of work during the day and that's something to be proud of.

It's almost as you wrote about me! I to seems to be unable to finish anything at home. My husband is quite upset sometimes.

If I don't do my errands the moment I get up before anything else they aren't going to get done at all. Yes, I make my bed at 5:30am but if I don't do it then it will never get done.

Loss of interest in even the simplest of activities and some that you used to enjoy is a symptom. The reason you are experiencing this is that your MDD symptoms have not all been properly treated. You should let your doctor know of this problem.

Thank you, but I already know the symptoms of MDD and I already know that I have it. No, I don't see a doctor because I consider psychiatry to be the one of the biggest scams of the 21st century and I don't want any more of their poison but that's just me.

Anyways, now that I got that off my chest, I figured out how I'm going to do things. I purchased an eBook recipe guide on how to freeze cook Crock Pot meals and how to prepare them and the guide came with 100s of recipes along with detailed instructions on how to prepare them for kitchen idiots like myself. I am going to print off an ingredient list from the eBook and take it to the store tomorrow and bulk buy a months worth of ingredients for meals plus some healthier microwavable food for when I don't want to mess with a Crock Pot and I'll live like that. I will simply run the Crock Pot when I'm at school/work and eat and not mess with anything when I'm home.

I will mess with chores and other boring things like that on the weekend when I have nothing else going on and I will use the suggestion Scaredandconfused posted about when I'm gaming or watching anime. Do something like play a MOBA match or keep going until I lose and my "punishment game" for losing being a bit or housework or watching a single 20 minute anime episode and take a break to do housework and so forth.|

As for shaving, I will keep myself stocked with higher quality razors and shave more often so I don't have to deal with this issue anymore. I used a service called "Harry's Razors" awhile back that shipped you a 2-4 month of stock of razors plus premium shave gel for about $20. I will start utilizing them again.

Sounds like you have a good plan in mind. I'm going to make one suggestion though and recommend that instead of looking at your breaks from gaming to do housework as punishment, try to find a way to make a reward for doing a certain amount of housework being able to game for a certain amount of time. Just a thought.

This thread popped out at me. I am struggling with this same issue as well. I am currently writing a list of the things I need to accomplish today. I am hoping this will help. Getting motivation is so difficult.

It's great that you are able to work all day! You can't go wrong with the crockpot! My husband uses the beard oil as well. It makes is shaving so much better. They sell it at Walmart. I hope you have a great day!

Can relate. Though it's no wonder, you work over 12 hours a day.
It takes time, but you can settle one day per week to take care of schedules, perhaps in a day where you don't work or work less hours.
When it comes to cooking, you can use a timer, whether it be on your phone or a separate application, and in that meantime you can do your business, whether it be gaming, anime, reading...

I also have very little motivation to do anything at home. I think this is normal for people who are mentally ill 🐻.
