So, you may know that I had pet mice, 2 of them. I got them becacuse that's all I could keep at the time. They moved halfway across the country with me. I really loved and enjoyed them. I talked to them nearly every day and took them out of the cage about every other day. Since I moved up into the mountains they have been drinking much more water, instead of changing thier water after 5 days, it needed to be done in 3. I've been really busy with work lately, we just got a new kitten and I've been having some issues with my fiance. This morning at 5am I woke up realizing that I haven't refilled thier water since the 3 days ago I noticed that they would need new water the next day. I went to go check on them... no water... both dead A very big mistake. I woke up my fiance and just started to cry I feel HORRIBLE!!! He told me not to beat myself up and that I'm the most caring person he's ever known and it was a mistake. I LOVE animals and I don't know if I can ever forgive myself. It was a mistake, but it ended 2 lives. I half want to get new ones and half don't... *sigh* Marmalade & Boysenberry... A very big mistake

Spaz,

It WAS a mistake. Please allow yourself that much and don't beat yourself up. We're very sorry about the passing of Marmalade & Boysenberry.

Keep taking care as it sound like you're dealing w/ a lot from your move still. Maybe wait a while before getting others? Let the kitten settle in and keep working on your issues.

Grieve as you need to. Mourn the loss. And one day you'll wake up and know it is time to open your heart to some new mice.

with sympathy and care,
__zh

((((spaz))))) believe me, i know this pain. it's a tough one. but, i know you are a good, caring, and loving person. i accidentally killed my 2nd cat. it hurt me more than anything, but i had to forgive myself. now, i'm so grateful to have had 2 previous cats and, currently, a dog and 3 cats.

((((((((((SpazzKatt)))))))))))),

I know how hard it is when we know we have done something that ends the life of little creatures that are dependent on us. I know also that when we have so many things going on around us, we sometimes can't remember everything. I also know that there is nothing we can say to ourselves to make it better or even really forgive ourselves when something like this happens. I know when this happened to me, it just took quite a bit of time before I was able to let it go.....this is pretty much all we can do. Grieve our loss & then vow to never make the same mistake twice.....I always say that I learn from my mistakes....I never make the same mistake twice....I make different mistakes, but never the same one.

It will just take time to be able to let go of the guilt feeling....& it will take time...& you will be ok as time goes on.

My prayers for your peace of mind,
Debbie

I have a feeling that since they had increased their water intake that they might have both had some illness that caused them to want more water and therefore they might have been close to the end of their lives anyway.

You could have done what I did! My daughter had a hamster. I had read somewhere that hamsters could eat lettuce or celery but not green peppers. the peppers would kill them. I forgot about this most important information. One evening I was making dinner and gave the hamster some green pepper. He ate it that night and was dead by morning. I then found the article that said that peppers caused a painfull death. I have felt bad ever since but have never told my daughter....I also ran over my cat one dark night when she was laying behind the wheel of my van. I know she was old and not well, I had had a conversation with her about not sleeping in the driveway as someone would run over her and I didn;t want to be the one to do it. I guess it gave her an idea on how to get the suffering out of the way. Man did I and do I feel bad I loved her so much.

You probably have hurt yourself here more than you have hurt them . . . just a thought.
