Hello,

I'm looking for mental health support groups in Tokyo where English is primarily spoken. I have not found any yet and was wondering if there are any out there? I am not interested in joining a church or religious organization. I just want to join a group where I can talk about my problems and share with other foreigners. Are there any such groups in Tokyo? Thank you.

I checked the clubhouses in Tokyo and it seems one has to be Japanese and speak Japanese to join. So, that would exclude me.

I asked the local bipolar group here in Tokyo but in Japanese. I don't know how they will respond. I told them my situation. I will share the information here once they respond.

I find it sad that there are no mental health support groups here in Tokyo for foreigners. There seem to be groups for other disorders, such as alcoholism, sexual, eating, etc. I wonder how the other foreigners with bipolar, anxiety, depression, etc deal with their illness while they are here.

This site has been very helpful also but it would be nice to meet others like myself in Tokyo just to share information and support each other.

If you are in Tokyo and have a mental disorder, there is a hotline here called TELL- 03-5774-0992 9am to 11pm daily. They also have a website called telljp.com

I hope this helps anybody here in Tokyo or Japan.

Best wishes!

just a thought here... your past posts say you have mental health treatment providers (pdoc and others). they will know what mental health support groups there are in your location and be able to tell you which ones are for English speaking people with mental disorders...

another thought... the embassy for what ever country of origin you are from... example if I was in Japan I would go to the american embassy, they will have all kinds of resources for american's in Japan.

if you are working in Tokyo/ Japan your boss with also know of all kinds of places like community centers, entertainment and so on for English speaking persons. once you find these places you may find someone there like a customer service rep that helps find resources for English speaking people.

your medical doctor in Tokyo will also be able to point you in the right direction of what mental health resources there are for an English speaking person....

If they have some of the support groups that they mentioned it sounds likely that they will have one that you can go to. Fingers crossed.
