PLEASE READ if you have issues for whatever reason with font colors in chat.

If certain colors are giving you difficulty in chat, please select the "settings" tab at the top. In the top/left category, you will will "chat area".

From there, click on "font colors" to deselect that option and all text will be black.

This should relieve most to all issues a member has with another's font color without having to put them on ignore.

When the member that's using a color you have issue with leaves, you can change that option back at any time.

Those with color issues for trigger reasons might want to select this at all times while in chat.

I'm just giving a good, viable solution to an ongoing issue that should really, if used, put an end to concerns regarding it. Please don't use this thread to point out another's behavior, etc. If you have a comment to this post, please feel free, though.

I personally find it a relief to know that this is yet another issue (ongoing) that we have good tools to manage. Please use this tool for your own experience, so that others can comfortably use their's.

Thanks!

KD

i have problems with colours ect it is much easyer to read different colours than all black. is its all balck i freak out as i loose myself. find it harder to read than light colours, like i said in the other thread there are only 3 light colours i cant read and i cant read unbold type on white backgrounds atall without getting headaches and anxiety.

You have good tools to manage that, including ignore.

If you can't do colors and can't do all black, you might use ignore or make sure you're feeling well enough to be in chat in the moment.

Sometimes, when highly anxious or not feeling well, chat might be more a hindrance than a help and only we can know that for ourselves.

Maybe before entering chat, you should ask yourself if you feel like being there. See if there are several in the room you're going to. Ask yourself if you'll be able to deal with the colors that might be there, or all black, or in a place that you can use ignore. If the answer is no, you might want to consider visiting chat when you can better manage your experience, knowing that others will be using their options as well more than likely.

For instance, I do that for myself. I check to see how many are in chat, if I can deal with the fast past and the PM's, if I can deal with all the reading and colors, etc. If it's making me anxious or I don't feel well, I don't go.

Thanks,

KD

even when i make a room for myself and people that know about my struggles some people persist in not helping how i feel by constantly coming in the room and i kick them out, they think it fun to keep coming in and makeing me worse, i guess i should just put them on ignore, what good is ignore when other people have convosations with them i would get lost in the convostation as i wouldnt know what they were saying

Yes, ignore would be good, or maybe waiting until you feel that chat would be more a help than a hindrance in the moment...knowing others' capabilities.

I edited my above post to say what I do before entering to kind of assess myself and potentials.

or use ignore.

also, have you tried the different skins so that maybe the background won't be white? there are different skins but i don't know what the background colors are.

no, i just checked and they're all white backgrounds.

yes, i'd say your's is an uncommon and difficult situation where you'll have to use ignore alot and be making sure you're in the "place" for chat at the time.

I would just like to mention that I have rarely gone to chat--I have been a little scared of the fast pace and unpredictability of it all. However, after all the conversations that have been happening lately, I stopped in chat last night--I just had to see for myself what was happening. I had a really good time. If I did not know something, I just asked and everybody took the time to explain. It was a really nice experience and I look forward to doing it more.

Very nice!

I was in chat last night as well and it was just a wonderful, amazing time in the support room. Giving and gaining support, and feeling that it made a difference for another...

I know it did for me!

KD,
I totally agree! I feel the same way

Since I am a special education teacher, I know where to search for resources for people with dyslexia/learning disabilites. I haven't finished searching, but I have a few ideas but have not tried any of them out. So, I have no idea if they will work.

1. Kazzi - have you tried using tinted sunglasses? You may have to experiement with different colors, but it may work. Plus, you'd look marvelous sitting at your computer. If it works, it's a win-win situation.

2. I read that you can change the settings in your browser.?

3. I use color transparencies with my students with dyslexia. I put the transparency over the text page and it reduces the contrast. Each student is different and what color works for one may not word for another. You can get these at Office Max, etc. Maybe you could place the transparency over your monitor? I guess you would have to tape it.

I can't really test run these ideas because I don't have dyslexia. It would be great if you could try these and let us know if they work. If not, it's back to the grindstone for more ideas.

Take care!

tinted sunglasses are no help as they not the right colour, i dont like to wear coloured glasses anyways as i look stupid in them thats why i stick to a transparency sheet thing.
my transparencey thingy stays at college in learning support area with all my books.

im sure i will figure something out
