I do not know if anyone can help me but I do not know what to do. I woke up this morning with a killer headache and such and I know that it is a sinus infection. This has been building up for days. I do not have insurance right now..does anyone have any home remedy quick fixes..like some teas or something?
I am going to pick up some over the counter medication on my way to work tonight but everything is spinning right now...

grrr

There are no quick fixes for an infection. If you've got time for the wait, why don't you go to your county hospital and be seen there. They don't demand payment and they do have to see you.

Good luck!

September Morn,
County hospital? Is that like a walk in clinic?

Jessica,

I stress, this is not a substitute for going to the doctor, and I am not qualified to prescribe anything, but there are some teas I would use (in conjunction with going to the doctor if you need to). Echinacea helps with fighting infections, as do goldenseal, zinc, and vitamin C. Some things that help with congestion include peppermint and eucalyptus. Breathing in the hot vapors as the tea is brewing can help also. There is a tea that I take for headaches that has feverfew and kava kava, from the Yogi Tea brand, called Head-Aid Tea. You shouldn't have much trouble finding the other stuff I mentioned, as there are many brands that have echinacea teas for fighting infections. Celestial Seasonings and Traditional Medicinals are a couple of brands that I know have it. I know you have a sinus infection, not a cold, but some of the stuff in teas for colds and stuffiness might help to break up the congestion in your sinuses. You can look for Celestial Seasonings Mama Bear's Cold Care or Traditional Medicinals Breathe Easy.

Something with Echinacea would be the number one herb I would use, and the others for additional support. If you can't drink that much tea, you can also get these herbs in capsules or tinctures at a health food store. Celestial Seasonings Echinacea Complete Care has several of them, including the echinacea, zinc, vitamin C, and peppermint and eucalyptus. Don't take too much of it (3-4 cups in a day are plenty). It can make you a little dizzy even if you don't take an excessive amount.

a sinus INFECTION? hmmm there are plenty of prescription meds that help immediately call your doctor and see if they have any give aways (samples) of something like Astelin.

You can use a nasal flush of STERIILE water and NON IODIZED salt and rinse your sinuses...

an HERB I use is GUARANA it is a non processed type herb in the caffeine plant but NOT caffeine in the way we think ... it clears your system out rather quickly (I happened onto this one year when I had had bronchitus for 6 months and the pulmonologist wrote me off both in letter(he didn't want a dead patient on his record) and otherwise (I was dying.)

But if it's an infection whether from allergies or a previous problem, you will need something from a doctor sooner or later... and if you continue to wait, it may become a huge problem you REALLY can't afford.

Sky,
I usually get at least one sinus infection over the course of a summer. This is the first one that I have had. I am going to try some herbs, teas, and over the counter cold medicine before I make an appointment. I am really hoping that it will just blow over because I do not get paid for another few weeks. I simply do not have the money to go see a doctor. Unfortunately the walk in clinics around here are just as expensive.

Ok I didn't say go see (did I?) but CALL your doctor... this should be even easier since he/she knows you get this every summer... and you could drop by and pick up the samples???

Rapunzel,

Don't you just love Yogi Tea? I have the anti-cramp one for when that wonderful Aunt Flow comes to visit every month. I love it sit with a heating pad on and drink a cup of that and it works. Every once in awhile I can find it at Big Lots and I love that cuz its only a buck.

Sky,
Sorry I must have misunderstood. Icky I did take your advice and call my doctor...unfortunately he told me that I would have to come in (again) to be seen and maybe he could give me samples.
I feel a little better today. Just going to take it one day at a time.

Thank you,
Jessica

It's good stuff, isn't it? I haven't seen one for cramps. The store where I found it seems to have discontinued it, but I am moving anyway, so I hope I can find it there.
