Is anyone on lock down (shelter in place)?

I'm in 1 of 6 California counties that is. We can go to the grocery store /to obtain food, to the pharmacy. Some restaurants are doing curbside delivery, but I doubt that will go on much longer. Pharmacies here are doing free delivery or curbside; no one can enter the pharmacy. A few clinics are open only for emergencies (I'm expecting them to close soon, too). Pdoc and therapist by phone.

Our governor, Gavin Newsom, says he will resort to martial law if people won't cooperate with shelter in place.

This is rough, especially because we have no knowledge of how long it will go on.

If anyone else is shelter in place, how are you coping as far as your mental health?

We don’t have that in place yet. Social distancing and isolating recommended. All restaurants are closed and most stores besides groceries. All gyms and all public events and venues are closed. Pretty much you can go outside walk or in grocery stores or work. But no shelter in place yet.

I am sorry you guys have this in place. My insurance sent an email today that they’ll cover 100% mental health phone sessions with no deductible and no copay.

I live in San Diego County. There had not been a county or city order lock down. But now I guess this order is statewide. I felt like an idiot because my sister from the east coast called me to tell me about it. She heard it on the news. I had not heard anything about it.

I have been going to work. The more the days go by the less people there are at work. It's very depressing. So I don't know about what's going to happen at work. Most people at where I work can do so at home. I can't because my job is an on-site job only.

Apparently only Calif and New York are on lock-down. It should be every state.

I'm in CA. It's confusing. We are probably exempt because I work for a company that does essential manufacturing. But we don't know how many days a week we are going to work, or if we are going to be on furlough or what exactly. There's a call in to our corporate (which ironically is in NY) this afternoon to sort this stuff out. Very confusing! And scary. I had to take some anxiety medication today.

It seems that Calif (and NY) are under additional stress because we are "hot spots." I have been doing okay, but today I'm starting to feel overwhelmed.

I hope your work situation becomes clear by today. It sounds extremely stressful.

Hey BethRags -

Yeah, it should be every state. We really need to get this under control, and it seems like there are a ton of people that are not getting it. I talked to my mom (who is almost 70) and she's still going out socializing, restaurants, the gym (until it closed - now she's planning to go to the trainer's house for personal training!), and is "looking forward to book club starting". It's crazy and it's not helping.

I'm self-quarantining, and have been trying to stretch out the time between grocery trips with getting things online.

We don't have a reliable supply of toilet paper yet here. Yesterday I did my shopping.. it was unbelievable, so many people didn't seem to understand the concept of social distancing, and to try to find toilet paper I had to go to multiple stores (thus I'm out more, exposed to more chances to pick up the virus or exposing more people if I've already been exposed).

I wish they'd think about this and find a way to pre-sign up for rations of things like toilet paper and foods that are going out of stock quickly, so people can pre-order, come in, pick it up at one store, and quickly leave.

I'm super stressed. I can't imagine how much more stressful it is to be under an order to stay home - although I really do think it's in the best interest of the people.

It's all crazy.

Way too many people are not taking the situation seriously. I really wonder what it will take for everyone to stop denying. Our governor has implemented national guard in a few locations. Maybe that's what it takes.

I'm self-quarantining, and have been trying to stretch out the time between grocery trips with getting things online.

That's smart.

The tp problem is outrageous here. There is no tp anywhere. No paper towels. Just empty shelves. Some stores are finally limiting things like water.

I wish they'd think about this and find a way to pre-sign up for rations of things like toilet paper and foods that are going out of stock quickly, so people can pre-order, come in, pick it up at one store, and quickly leave.

Yes! I agree. Seems it would be easier to do that than end up with a situation like Italy.

I'm super stressed. I can't imagine how much more stressful it is to be under an order to stay home - although I really do think it's in the best interest of the people.

I hear you. I'm stressed, too. Overnight our lives turned upside down, and it's not like we can say "This will be over in 3 weeks" - there's no time limit. And if the majority of people aren't taking the pandemic seriously we're looking at many months during which our lives become increasingly complicated.

It's all crazy. Yes.
*hugs*
to you, too.

I'm in Italy. We can't do almost anything. It's very bad for anxiety and for my need of control.

Like guilloche said it should be every state. I'm happy to hear Florida finally cracked down on those spring breakers. My state has done everything but a lock down. That should be next tho.

Here in ON, it's mostly people being asked to voluntarily self-iisolate, but all schools, theaters, restaurants/bars, gyms - really any place people can gather are closed. People are being urged to work from home as much as possible.

I'm only going out to the pharmacy to pick up meds. I have my groceries delivered, normally, so going out to shop is not a problem for me now, although I do wonder about my ability to get some items on-line now.

My psychiatrist and addictions Dr have both gone to phone appointments only.

The one big positive for me is that most of mental health and addiction support are on-line, so for me there's no disruption, while people in AA are having to deal with closed meetings.

My biggest problem right now is boredom, there's only so much knitting I can do during the day, and even TV watching gets old after a while.

I'm just glad that Can. put restrictions in place, before it got out of control, unlike some places in the US.

Yeah, the US really blew it on this one. Now we'll pay the price.

Just like everything in life it should be applied where APPROPRIATE. Midwest states are following shutdowns & distancing & maybe a hand full of cases in the whole state. Everyone is limiting activity to only what is necessary. Lockdown is not necessary everywhere.....but definitely necessary in places with dense populations.

I live in an agricultural area. Farmers have to work their farms or you have no food to eat. Just like truck drivers have to drive or no one gets supplies. Applied reasonably & with EVERYONE in the country taking precautions to distance we will get through this

Agree, they are pushing my state for a lock down but I don't think that is appropriate. There are only 600 cases for a large population state. Each day it goes up more than the last but it by no means doubles daily. It goes up like 20% daily.

I actually think we have "flattened" the curve here.

I suspect that the massive numbers of cases in the USA are coming from large dense populations where it spread pretty far in the early days. Such as New York and CA. I believe like 8 states are where the cases are.

To make you feel better I heard that yesterday was the first day Italy saw some results from the lock down. That is about 3 weeks after they started so I think that tells you that we are about 2 to 3 weeks away from seeing results.

I am not coping well at all.

For a little context, in our country, life has not been normal since October of las year. During October and November we were under curfew with the military on the streets due to civil unrest. It was often difficult to get out and get basic supplies due to supermarkets closing as there was looting and concerns about running into protests or street barricades.

Things hadn't fully calmed down. We were still having protests up to the time that the virus started to be an issue here, but protests were more limited to certain hotspots and easier to avoid. Supermarkets were stocked better.

Now, we are back to the same, but due to the virus. Curfew with the military on the streets started again last night. We are under state of catastrophe and identity controls. Our borders are closed and there are limits on travel to certain regions. In the capital, the military, police, etc. can stop you and do an identity check to make sure you are not supposed to be under quarantine.

I am exhausted. I can't believe we are going through our second curfew in six months. I never thought I'd experience something like this in my life.

@rechu

There are similar things going on where I am. I don't think it's as military-like where I am. But they are certainly trying to detain people and keeping people off the streets. It's unfortunate. I guess that they (at least where I am) have the best of intentions in keeping people off the streets. Is there mandatory quarantine under enforcement where you are?

UK is currently operating on telling people to socially distance themselves and work from home. I think the majority are being careful but unfortunately not everyone so I suspect lockdown is imminent...

Thanks!! @BethRags

@WastingAsparagus It's sort of a weird, variable situation. The cases started mainly in the northeast of the capital, a more affluent area. Essentially it was people with money who went on summer break to Italy and Spain. Last week the mayors of three of these municipalities (one where I lived until about a year ago) declared some sort of quarantine, even though the president said they don’t have the authority to do so. A former neighbor says they are taking it more as a recommendation.

Our international borders are closed. Easter Island is quarantined, as is Chiloé, they basically stopped running flights and ferries, cutting it off. A few places down south where cruises passed through have been quarantined. Finally, there is a city called Chillán that has had a whole lot of cases for a town of its size, nearly all linked to a gym. The city is under quarantine. It’s almost impossible to get in and out.

Then, if you are traveling to the farther north or south where there have been fewer cases, they have set up health checkpoints where they take your temperature and ask some other questions before deciding if they give you a pass to continue.

In Santiago, especially in the worst hit communities, the police, military, etc. can stop you to do ID checks to see if you are on a list of people that are supposed to be under quarantine. I live in the Metropolitan Region but not in Santiago Province. So far we haven’t had such measures here. I’ve only heard of one case in the area.

Then, they are doing checks on people going to the coast. They are telling people from the capital who have vacation homes on the coast to go back or not to go. Apparently there are checkpoints on the major highways. I am amazed that they can do that, but I guess that’s the reason for the state of catastrophe declaration. My husband says it feels like we’re in some sort of futuristic apocalyptic movie.

I do wonder if this is all a ramp up to stricter movement restrictions.

My fear is when the disease starts to hit the poorer municipalities of Santiago, which feels inevitable by now. My husband has experience working in such areas. People in many neighborhoods live in cramped conditions, 10-12 people in a small house, often several generations, putting the elderly at risk. Many have more chronic health issues as well. It’s not going to be good.

I'm so frustrated. I've been having severe depression for over a month now. This COVID-19 is making it so much worse for me. I was suppose to have an appointment with my therapist today and it got canceled. I have had 4 days off from work and I'm not handling this isolation very well. I guess for me it's good I have an essential job and am going back to work tomorrow. This is a very long weekend for me though. Thanks everyone for Ietting me vent.
