Thanks for participating in this poll, your responses will help us understand whether to get rid of the pop-up survey ad or keep it here on the community.

I've not seen it so I think my pop up blocker doesn't allow it to come up. I am using Firefox and I get the little yellow bar at the top saying there was a blocked pop up thing, but that doesn't bother me.

I do use a pop-up blocker but I still get it.

Thank you for doing the survey, DocJohn. Another example of how you care for us here that you would take the time to do this and that you care what we think about it.

Just to clarify...

The site has been and will *always* be free to users, regardless of whether we have a pop-up ad like this or not.

While our advertising partner prefers we run these survey ads (because it does give them some valuable consumer data), we have a choice as to whether to do so or not.

Thanks,
DocJohn

The ad is a bother, but manageable. It would be more tolerable, for me, if I knew it only ran for a set period of time, intermittently (i.e. one week a month.)

I don't like the ad that shows up immediately when I am trying to access the site! I can't get to the main page without getting it first; if I had never been to the site, I wouldn't continue.

I have a popup blocker, but I still see the ad.

Would it be possible for them to post the survey in the forums for people to answer like this survey? Just an idea.

If we keep the ad, can we choose something else in our lives for you to make go away? Poll: Do you mind the pop-up Survey Ad?

I have a question for clarification purposes......

Are we talking about the Pop Up Ad you see when you log onto PC or are we talking about this Ad - the one I asked about in another thread?

Every unwanted, unsolicited pop-up is annoying! If I want to read or research something, I will find it myself.

Can they not just add it to the side like all the other adverts? I do check them out once in awhile.

BTW, I also have a pop-up blocker - thank goodness!

Thanks for asking, DocJohn! It was very good of you to do so.

Do we only have ONE pop-up or are there many? My blocker catches one every time I go to my in box. Poll: Do you mind the pop-up Survey Ad?

If we took the survey, would it go away? I don't care about the $5. LOL Unless, of course, I got $5 every time I took the survey! Poll: Do you mind the pop-up Survey Ad? Poll: Do you mind the pop-up Survey Ad?

The "ad" referred to in this poll is the occasional pop-up ad asking to take a consumer survey. It's not actually an ad, because it's not advertising anything, just asking for your opinions. Such market research helps our advertisers.

The other ad, which is an actual ad, that sometimes pops up before you come to the forums (or the site) will be done running tomorrow.

I won't miss the ad tomorrow, that's for sure. The pop-up survey I've had only 2-3 times in a year and a half and I've started it once (and then didn't like the "subject" so exited out without finishing it) and I think I completed it once. With so many people coming to the site, since I assume it's site-wide, not just the forums, I think the chances of getting one are not great, which is probably why some people have not gotten it It's just vaguely annoying to me; I wish it knew who it had asked and didn't ever ask you again if you responded to it.

It isn't a usual pop-up, I have all those blocked. Maybe it's more like a pop-under? Poll: Do you mind the pop-up Survey Ad? But it is rarely once a day for me, and that's only because I'm here so much of the time, I'm sure. Poll: Do you mind the pop-up Survey Ad?

My pop-up blocker doesn't block it. I get it about 2 to 3 times (usually within minutes of each other) when I am here. It irritates me but I guess just clicking on the cross to close it is all it takes.

I've never seen it but I am opposed to there being more ads then there absolutely need to be.

I didn't vote in the poll because I couldn't convey that with the poll...

From the poll:

> Yes, I find it annoying, but I don't mind it

To me that is a contradiction. I did not find any of the choices fit, so I did not vote.

I find the attempted pop-up annoying but I feel I can deal with it.

My pop up blocker is on and I still get it from time to time. Not every day, but it usually comes up several times when it does, I just keep clicking the x.

I'm sorry pachyderm and alexandra we didn't have answers that exactly matched your own feelings, but I'd encourage you to answer with the one that best fits your feelings.

I agree, I also look to keep advertising to the minimum necessary in order to sustain the site. In the forums, that generally means one ad per page for now.

I don't think the survey is blocked by the pop-up blocker. It "selects" people (unlike the ads which are indescriminate is their annoyingness :-)

Here's an example of someone with code that is not affected by pop-up blockers that anyone can create for their site; presumably "professional" surveyers' software is even more powerful/sophisticated. I think that's why DocJohn is asking for our vote to see whether the survey stays/goes; the ads he can cut down but the survey is different: http://www.questionpro.com/help/64-inline.html
