Um...
Because I feel I deserve the pain, to release emotional tension, and because I love the sight of my own blood.

For me, it is turning out to be a lot of avoidance. It tends to communicate and say "I can't handle this (whatever is going on) - leave me alone." It also helps to avoid feelings that I dont want to deal with by distracting with something physical.

For me, it's not about leaving a mark, or getting attention. In fact, I've never let anyone notice them. I make tiny little cuts b/c I feel I need to punish myself for failing at something.

I've yet to find anything in the world that delivers that kind of relief. It's instant, and I always feel better right afterward.

To numb the pain of my exsistance, I have stopped for about 5 months now had a relapse 4 months ago was really down and out and drunk, so I did it to ease the pain that I felt inside at the time.

For me it is a release of what I feel on the inside.

I sometimes use it as a distraction tool.

Sometimes I have uncontrollable urges to feel lots of pain and see lots of my own blood and that is when I get help b/c I fear losing control.

I do not have any suicidal intentions or thoughts, and I make sure that my harms are not enough for medical attention and that they are not very scarring...

Welcome to PC...you mention SI - are you seeing anyone professionally?

Your subject line struck me a bit different then the rest - I guess I just feel uncomfortable about it. So I'll save my answer for later.

Keep posting - you will find support here...
