Today is 2 years without a drink!

Today is also the first day of not smoking.

I had quit smoking for 10 years, but when I quit drinking, I started smoking. So now it is time to give up the smokes.

Overall, I have been doing a lot to take care of myself over the past couple years. I have lost 40 lbs by improving my diet. I am now at my ideal body weight.

I am in regular therapy and making excellent progress.

I am starting to reach out to others a little more. During the last phase of my drinking and the first year of my recovery, I almost never left my house and had very little online support. Not only did I not leave my house—I spent most of my time hiding in my bedroom. The world just seemed too overwhelming. Now, I am making it to the grocery store, pharmacy, work and a few social activities. Going down to the mail box is still a little stressful, but I do it.

It has been 6 years and 10 months since I have had crack—another miracle in my life.

My depression and anxiety are under control with meds.

Today, I am extremely grateful for all the good things happening to me. I know giving up the cigarettes is going to be a battle, but I think I am ready to take it on and conquer it. I feel like I have a second lease on life and I want to make as much of it as I possibly can…

Sartre, “Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does.”

Sartre, “Freedom is what you do with what's been done to you.”

The quote "You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star." is by Nietzsche--one of my favorite philosophers!

Thanks all for your support!

You are truly an inspiration to me depressme. I have read your bio and look forward to all of your posts. I hope one day I can be as well rounded as yourself. I am trying.

You take care and good luck with the smokes. may I suggest a site.

www.stopsmokingcenter.net? they are a good source to help with triggers and the like.

meanwhile i need to practice what i preach and quit soon myself.

best to you...you are wonderful!

Congratulations on your 2 year anniversary!!!

Now you are becoming a non-smoker! That's great.

You have made many big and important changes and you have so much to be proud of.

I'm glad your world has expanded to include things outside your bedroom and home, and I'm grateful you're here where you are such a positive influence and a wonderful supporter.

I can't think of a more fitting way to celebrate your 2 year anniversary than to decide to become a non-smoker. It's not hard for long and it's well worth it. You're going to love it!

WTG DPM!!!! I need to follow your example and start eating better and get weight down to ideal. It is just hard with meds against me and body leading a revolt against my well being...that sounds funny but is oh so true!!

You are well on your way and it sounds as if you are doing awesome. I wanna follow you...can i can i??? lol I want to be stable with depression, I want to eat better and lose weight and I never want to go back to being addicted again(been clean since leaving ex husband).

Hugs n well wishes and hi fives!! ~ melanie
