I'm thinking about my future. Right now I'm close to finishing my degree in general sciences, but I don't feel competent.

I'm thinking of finishing my degree in a year and then going to dental hygiene school for 2 years and be a dental hygienist for a while.

I say for a while because I may go back to school and do something else and find an even better job.

Dental hygiene sounds good to me because it is science related and I like science. I'm also geniunely interested in dental heatlh. I also hear that this job is flexible and that might make going to uni part time a possiblity.

I worry that it's a physically demanding job.

Is anyone a dental hygienist? What are the good and bad things about this job?

I doubt I'll be a dental hygienist my whole life, but it's something I'll like to learn more about.

Hi Rainbowzz! Thanks

I've heard that it's difficult to get into dental hygiene programs. My grades in university are all over the place. I have A's and F's. My average is probably C.

Would I get into a dental hygiene school? I got really good grades in high school though. I managed to get an entrance scholarship for uni. The main problem is I need structure to do well. Uni is just too unstructured for me. I do really well when I have tutors or when people actually take attendence.

That's why I think college would be better for me. Smaller classes and more individual attention.

They have a student page of their National association. Maybe they have some clues?

I did some more research and I've discovered that the majority of dental hygienists are female and attractive.

I'm not attractive. Check out my picture in the photos section.

Hmmm...I may have a hard time finding a job. Also I've read that there are too many dental hygienists in Ontario.

Sigh, I'll never find a good job. I don't know what I'm going to do with my life.

Okay, how attractive you think you are and what that has to do with whether or not you would make a great dental hygenist, I just don't know Green!

How about a dental lab technician?

Hmmm...I also found this:

It says dental hygiene is a hot career.

So much conflicting info!

It is a hot career but may not be in your particular area at this time. Opening coffee shops might be a hot business but I don't think you're going to get too far in Seattle where Starbucks is headquartered? Anyone a dental hygienist?

Look at dental lab technician and other jobs around "teeth" and go talk to hygenists and to the dental labs in Ontario and ask about jobs, etc. Too, if you go to a local University dental school for your training, maybe you'll want to stay on as a teacher or assistant there? Lots of possible jobs I think.
