Today went like any other day at work, busy in the mornings with draws and then starting on results as they came in from our lab and 2 others, and the occassional hospital. Its a lot of work....getting the charts, writing any applicable medications, comparing old results with current ones. When I was hired they said that the lab duties usually end in the afternoon and then I'd help the front office girls. I help the front as much as I can and then get called away to draw someone, or write up an order etc.
Today our general boss was there and she made a comment about my work taking longer, and that we'd have to figure out how to fix that. I asked her later if I'm doing ok and she said yeah, its just taking longer. I tried explaining to her what all I do and she said "we've done it before, so we'll have to find a way." So I was feeling stressed anyway, and then at 4 she pulled me into the break room and said since I'm not a medical assistant, its not cost effective to keep me there for the whole day, since they've brought in a medical assistant to help with the desk and do nurse visits. So my options are, work from 7am to noon and just be part time, get off at noon and go to another site and help with clerical stuff, or possibly apply for a job within the company as a lab processor. I don't have details on that job yet so I don't know, but I did want a similar position with an old job, so I'm not ruling that out. My boyfriend said whatever I decide will be ok. We move in together next month so if I'm making less money it'll be alright, since we'll be splitting bills, but I'd be just making it again. So I don't know whats gonna happen. This is exactly why I always expect the other shoe to drop.

They're not saying I'm doing a bad job. I think they realize that the time I spend even though I'm still pretty darned quick, is giving them more precise information. She said its nothing to do with me, its all about money. For them to have someone full time in my position it needs to be an MA. I guess they weren't thinking ahead when they decided to hire a phlebotomist.
